Report: Cowboys Trying To trade Trevon Diggs, Could cut The CB

For cap purposes what would this mean? If I’m reading it right we would be charged 12 or 13 million next season. Any of you cap guys know for sure. Salary cap mechanics really aren’t my thing.

Of course you are going to listen to owner driven media. I don’t think graft surgery happens because you don’t go all out with rehab the way the team wanted him too. Diggs was healthy for game one.

Notice I said *IF, meaning I'm not taking their word for it and would want to learn more about the situation before passing any judgment. I was fine with extending Diggs, but I won't pretend he hasn't made business decisions. It doesnt seem out of character for someone like that not to take rehab seriously.

Should have traded him before giving him the extension

Waste of space
Not even ballpark...what about this:

CB who stole the show during the second day of the 2025 NFL Combine. The Kentucky cornerback exploded for a 4.28 in the 40-yard dash, making him the fastest defensive back in this class. He's also someone the Dallas Cowboys have shown interest in.

During his media availability, Hairston confirmed he met with the Cowboys for an interview. He was asked how that went and was all smiles, saying he loves getting the chance to talk ball.

Some say Diggs is decent size for a CB, as in not that undersized if any...

I guess you gotta go low on kittles and roll your body, shoulder into Kittles lower half...that's still a high impact play.

I've defended Diggs for the play, as I don't care that he plays defense and tackling is requires...see Deion. I would need to hear from coaches and GM's on their opinion of true shut down corners and their use of business decisions, even in Playoff atmosphere. I would think there are a few coaches and GMs that would take a business decision making shut down corner if they could.

But, it all makes sense now. Even if this report is fake, posters are saying they are done with him because of injuries. So, Diggs trying to prolong his career by making a business decision made sense...because if this report is true...he could be out of league soon or have to take a huge discount next contract. He secured his bag before being spit out...good for him.
If he was deion....I would be ok too but he was not and is not deion. Nowhere close.

I wanted us not to resign him. But he was selling too many jerseys and Jerry would never let him walk.

Perhaps they want to trade him so they resign Bland and draft one

While technically not under contract, Juanyeh Thomas is highly unlikely to depart as an exclusive rights free agent. The Cowboys only need to offer him the league minimum to keep his rights for this year, and there’s no reason to think that they won’t. While a relatively minor knee injury ended his season early, Thomas is expected to be all the way back and continue his emergence on defense.

In fact, some have even suggested that Dallas should move Thomas into a starting role over Donovan Wilson. They could get back about $5.9 million in cap space off Wilson’s deal which would be useful at other positions, while arguably suffering little-to-no loss in performance with Thomas’ promotion.

Wilson could be in trouble given his underwhelming coverage skills.

Another factor here is Matt Eberflus taking over the defense. If he sticks to his scheme with two-high safeties. 3 CB sets will dominate.

After seeing the corners at the combine, the must think they can get a quality starter in the 1st or 2nd and save a ton of cap in 2 years when Diggs dead money is done.

Diggs was awesome but I don’t Dallas has the stomach after recent injuries with $$ not working out.

If a top pick falls they can wait for round 2.
Problem is we also need a RB, WR, DT and LB in the first or second and now CB. Some even think we will double up in the draft on RB and DT. lol

This. Unless they get creative or open up the wallet they don’t have much room to open up additional needs this year.

He’s a heck of a player when healthy but he’s had 2 major lower body injuries.

If cutting him allows us to sign even a solid corner I’m ok with it.

I can't prove anything...but there were quite a few posters claiming his second year he shut down like the 3 top receivers in the league when we faced them.

Maybe it was QBs being cautious due to the stigma around Diggs at the time. I've read a lot of positives about his play, mainly his ability to protect the deep ball, around here.

Seems like he had a knack for the ball, even of he got caught jumping routes from time to time. Saw him numerous times ALMOST get an INT. He seemed to jump off the screen a bit, which is hard to do as a defensive back, imo.

I completely get hard core fans position to move on based on the number of business decisions he made.

What happened to Diggs just makes me sick. So much potential with him and Bland together. fate intervened with multiple injuries of the type that changes careers.

The Cowboys had two 1st team All-Pros at CB and just like that......

Last season would have been so different with those two healthy along with a healthy set of DE's. Those season changing turnovers would have been there.

It's part of the game.....but it still bites.

Defensive staff and head coach has been replaced! Use common sense.

There seems to be criticism of both players around here...

I don't watch film, as you need to know what's going on as far as player assignment assignments...

But I would think Bland and a never injured Diggs would cause QBs to think an extra millisecond longer before throwing, causing windows to close for receivers.

Bland ain't afraid tackle either, actually seems very willing, like Overshown.

I’d be cool with parting with Wilson if it means we can keep JLew. I feel our best DB last year was Lewis. I don’t want to lose him. What’s the cap ramifications if we do trade Diggs. I can live without Diggs and his soft play. I was done with Diggs when he went after that reporter after the game with more effort than he made tackling during the game.

Definitely, Bland is the man that aggressively ran towards the Tampa bay WR and ripped the ball out his hands to win the game. Bland isn’t the perfect player but effort is not in question. I love Bland and Lewis, scrappy guys that fight.
