****In the 2017 number I subtracted 28 points that were the result of a pick 6.
Something to discuss...are we letting a young, firey coach blind us to the fact that this defense statistically isn’t much different? That playoff performance was as bad as I have seen in the Marinelli era...maybe the worse. Richard calls the plays.
Remember...he was fired from a staff that many of us envy and the Seahawks defense is no worse for it.
I think we've given him too much credit, yes. Why? Because so many were tired of Mari as DC. When Richard came here and the defense improved a bit, it was because of Richard, the young fiery motivator. I remember when Ryan first came to Dallas as a DC. There was a definite uptick in the defense for about 4 games and all of a sudden Ryan was a great DC. Then the defense fell back to earth for the rest of the season and the following season and Ryan was dirt.
Similar to Richard, the defense played well all year and suddenly Richard was the reason. He must have been. Same old Rod patrolling the sidelines so it MUST have been Richard who was responsible for the improvement. The thing is, we discredited Mari and credited Richard THEN after the Rams game we were stuck. Can't blow and suck at the same time. If Richard got all the credit for the improvement, how do fans justify that when the wheels come off. Too much credit given for sucesss and now too much blame for the loss.
Richard is a fine young defensive coach. We quaked in our boots at the thought of losing him to anther team as a HC. Didn't happen. Be thankful that he's here, part of the coaching staff. Life lesson? Be careful who you deify because there are no earth bound deities. We created the myth of Richard the saviour, now we have to live with the fact that he's merely mortal. The defense improved in 2018 and that's a fact despite all the stats like interceptions and sacks. Be happy with that fact and with Richard here on our coaching staff. Rock on!!
