Are we tied to the Cleveland Browns this year?

I think part of JJ would love nothing more to give JM a shot here. He's not entirely wrong; if JM were had for a late round pick, he could come in, compete, and even though he may bomb out, he wouldn't be selling the farm to test the waters of a guy he really liked.

It cracks me up when some think this team is still completely ran by Jerry Jones.

Wait is this another one of those times we are told Ciskowski McClay runs this?

It's supposedly more of a democracy now. Jerry is still the boss, after this season, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't feel the pressure and take a little more control.

Who knows though? Nobody here for sure.

Another quote that people keep forgetting is when Jerry said he has been too cute and failed by taking a former #1 pick thinking they could turn him around (referencing Weeden)

The more I read, the more I am convinced this route, or one like it, will be what is done versus drafting a QB in the first.

If he can be talked out of Manziel, then it is likely Griffin. There really are no other veteran alternatives and no way is anyone going to admit that Romo is mortal to the point they invest in a first round choice.

"He"? But--he does not run things. Why would he say "he"?

I could see the roster like this:

1. Romo
2. Manziel
3. Draft pick
PS - Showers

I do think that the staff will take a QB within the first three rounds as anything lower than that will show the fanbase that they're not serious.

This has Jerry written all over it. Getting a 1st round talent QB on the cheap!

He will think he got a steal..........sigh.

If Goff is taken, then why not? For a 5th rounder or lower, if Manziel ends up not working out, you simply go look for other options in another draft. It'll save us from reaching at qb. Also, rarely do our guys drafted after round 3 do anything meaningful to the team. This will allow us to fortify other positions with our higher picks.

Pretty sure Jerry still has significant influence on major decisions like acquiring a new QB. Or do you think he is completely hands off now?

It cracks me up when know-nothings on a team message board refute the direct words of the team GM

"Completely running the team" to me means making all the decisions, and I've never heard Jerry say he's doing that. All I've ever heard him say on the topic is that stuff like the draft is a group effort. Now, what Jerry says and what Jerry does are two entirely different animals, so who the hell knows what's going to happen in late April. What I do know is that regardless of what Jerry has said, I would be shocked to see him mortgage the Cowboys future over an obsession with Johnny Manziel. If Goff is on the board when #4 is up and McClay and Steven are telling Jerry Goff is a franchise guy, I don't think I see Jerry passing. Just my $0.02.

I can understand this thinking. However, that opportunity may not present it self in future drafts.
If a QB is there this year in the first 2 rounds, you go with that. If they gamble, on a late round pick onJF, then say, oh, we tried, but now in 2017, there are no QB's when we pick....that is less odds on that gamble then a QB now, in 1st 2 rounds.

The old sayings...when the opportunity knocks, answer the door....if the door is open, put your foot in, do not let it close....

I honestly hope the team stays away from Manziel. What a joke it would be.

Personally, I think if Cleveland decided to make a change and drafted a QB and let Johnny Football go, I think think we would be the perfect situation for him to sit behind Romo for a few years while he learns and MATURES!!!!

I think this would be a terrible place to expect that to happen. When you are the (extremely publicized) pet cat of the team owner and GM, all accountability goes out the window. And this organization is already pretty much famous for turning a blind eye to bad behavior. I mean what's Jerry going to do, scold him for public drinking while he slurps down another Johnny Walker on the team party bus?

I don't believe this ends well if Manziel winds up here.

While examining the needs the Cowboys have at quarterback - backup for now and eventual replacement - it seems that our fate is inexorably tied to the decisions that the Browns will be making. The Browns will likely be drafting higher that the Cowboys will, at least at this point. If they decide to move on from Manziel, they'll probably take a quarterback - either Lynch or Goff - and that could impact what the Cowboys do with their first round pick.

And, if they do draft a quarterback, it would mean the end for Manziel in Cleveland, which could again affect what the Cowboys do. Does Jerry Jones still covet him as much as many think? Could the team decide to acquire him as option?

It seems to me that a lot of what Dallas does could be tied to what Cleveland decides to do.

The Browns could also decide they would rather look at a QB in the top of the 2nd and go BPA with Tunsil. They have failed miserably with first round QB's and may decide to take another route.
