Are we tied to the Cleveland Browns this year?

While examining the needs the Cowboys have at quarterback - backup for now and eventual replacement - it seems that our fate is inexorably tied to the decisions that the Browns will be making. The Browns will likely be drafting higher that the Cowboys will, at least at this point. If they decide to move on from Manziel, they'll probably take a quarterback - either Lynch or Goff - and that could impact what the Cowboys do with their first round pick.

And, if they do draft a quarterback, it would mean the end for Manziel in Cleveland, which could again affect what the Cowboys do. Does Jerry Jones still covet him as much as many think? Could the team decide to acquire him as option?

It seems to me that a lot of what Dallas does could be tied to what Cleveland decides to do.

Jerry has mentioned him pretty much every week this season. That should tell us what we need to know.

Yup. Whether it be taking Goff because Cleveland decided to live with JFB or getting JFB in trade because Cleveland decided to take Goff, we are definitely in bed with them this offseason.

Possibly, and I can see the reasoning behind that. But also with 2 QB's in the top 10, if we can get either one, it may not matter.

Dallas will not trade fro JF...I say Dallas, as Jerry will be gagged and bound in the first round of the draft....or be sent out for pizza. Or better yet, his JWB bottles will be hidden, and he and Spaulding will be on an Easter Drink Hunt and out of the war room.

It cracks me up when some think this team is still completely ran by Jerry Jones.

Yes me too.
I still run across people that think that and still insist he calls the plays. I don't even talk to them, I just walk away.
Then the next time they say they are right because I won't talk to them about it. I tell them they are stupid, then walk away again.

He was pretty high on the tram draft board. It isn't unrealistic that the team won't chase after a former first round pick they were high on in the draft(Weeden).

Not saying I completely disagree but do you care to elaborate? Who do you think makes most of the personnel decisions?

It's supposedly more of a democracy now. Jerry is still the boss, after this season, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't feel the pressure and take a little more control.

Who knows though? Nobody here for sure.

Personally, I think if Cleveland decided to make a change and drafted a QB and let Johnny Football go, I think think we would be the perfect situation for him to sit behind Romo for a few years while he learns and MATURES!!!!

I would respond( I have lots of thoughts on the topic) but do not feel I can do to the new fan zone rules.

You don't know anymore than any of us. I personally think his involvement ebbs and flows depending on the level of trust he has in those around him.

But to pretend he doesn't have significant (if not at times total) control and involvement cracks me up.

Jerry was high on him in the draft. My conspiracy theory is Jerry sneaked in, and pinned JF name on the list....thinking Stephen wouldn't notice.
Like a kid opening and re-wrapping a present........the JWB stain was a tip off though...:muttley:

I know exactly what you're saying as far as an average fan using Jerry as the scapegoat for everything and I also agree when it comes to the draft, especially early round picks he absolutely defers to the consensus in the room.

However, when it comes to trading for JF for a 5th or 6th I am convinced he would pull rank and pull the trigger. The repercussions won't be as bad (especially with the amount of compensatory picks this year), he keeps his wildcatter persona intact and the upside is just too appealing from both the marketing and publicity aspect.

And on 10 % the chance JF turns it around and can play - well - "I ain't got the words."

I'm not sure why they would move away from Josh McCown at this point. He was having a pretty decent year before going down. While not exciting he would be better off than a rookie and could mentor a rookie QB for a year or two.

A very depressing revelation for the start of the new year.
