Are you a win now or later fan?

The advantage in a league where GMs and HCs all mortgage the future to *win now* is to play the long game.

You can eat one marshmallow now, but if you still haven't eaten your marshmallow in fifteen minutes, I'll give you *another* one and you can eat them both.

And how has that long game worked in Dallas?

Garrett has been here dam near a decade and we have 2 Wildcard wins.

Regardless of the intentions of the Cowboys organization, after two decades of not "winning now", I think it's fair to classify all Cowboys fans who remain loyal to the team as "win later" fans despite claims of the contrary.

Exactly...…………..that is why its so hilarious when some posters call other posters "bandwagon fans" or "fake fans".

This team hasn't won jack chit in over 20 years, there are no bandwagon fans left. The only Cowboy fans left are the hard core loyalist. Now we may not all agree on the best way to fix the team. Some want to spend big in free agency, some want to build through the draft. Some want to give out second contracts to players like Tank or Dak, some want to spend the money elsewhere because they say those players are not good enough. Some want a new head coach, some think Garrett is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Regardless of the disagreements, the overall goal is still the same for all fans and that is winning another SB before we are all dead;)

With all these one year deals, the Cowboys are in "win now" mode and I'm definitely buying into that frame of mind.

This does look like an "all in" year.

If this season goes South, next year is the perfect year to "blow it up". We have around 35 players with expiring contracts next season, along with most of the coaching staff as well.

Garrett is a problem, and the solution is fixing that problem, not screwing up our extremely successful play acquisition process.

We have a younger, better team which has dug itself out from the dead money of the previous era of Win NOW! Playoffs every other year since 2014. Triple digit wins every other year. 48-32 over 5 seasons.

Would you rather go back to the old, broken down dead money team we had in 2010, after playing "Win NOW!" since making the playoffs in 2006?

We screwed up the team that Parcell's left Jerry by playing Win NOW! I'd rather not do that again.

For player acquisition, McClay, Stephen, and Garrett are doing right. The last 3 years could have been more successful with competent development and use of an apparent franchise QB on offense and Marinelli not getting pantsed in the playoffs.

I think Lawrence's deal could be an issue down the road but do you know what's down that road? Me neither.

It seems every year, I would point to the following year as the year because I saw them on this incline chart that basically ignored the real issue, the other teams on the chart. While I might see the Cowboys building toward something, so were other teams and maybe on a steeper incline.

I do not want them to address Prescott, Elliott or any other player under contract until they've exhausted all of the resources to make the run now. I am a win now fan. And it's not just because I am older than most here but that "team of the future" isn't working.

The other part of the win now mentality is to hell with the draft in 2020, do whatever is necessary in this draft, the one deep in DL, to get quality not quantity. The Cowboys need a pick to play like Vander Esch or Lord Byron, not a Charleton. They need immediate help because as this team is now, I don't see it. And the odds of immediate help at 58 are a lot worse than on day 1.

This draft is not just about needs but what is missing. If it is necessary to borrow from 2020 to impact 2019, I am all in on that. There are players in this draft that can step in and start but I do not see that at 58.

So, I know the "correct answer" is both but between the two which are you? Want to sink the 8 ball on the break or wait to set it up and take a chance on your opponent doing that?

I'm a win always fan. I'm also a realist and know that won't happen. In reality you could say I'm an accepting fan

Sacrificing your future for the present is very seldom a good idea and generally leads to years of mediocrity. So, no, that is by far not the only acceptable answer.
Win now and every year is.

At this point in Cowboy fandom, winning at ANY time is desirable,...I’ll even take a one-off, accidental SB win like Philly, Denver, and Pitt have stolen in recent years.

It’s a win now league because of the salary cap. Rookie deals on star players gives you a 4 year window. Then they have to start paying a few most of the money. Draft is important. I think our FO is doing a good job building through the draft.

The pats have been so lucky to have a good HC and brady. That’s kept them a dynasty. When brady is gone the dynasty dies. Will likely be the last dynasty we will see.

Since we aren’t building a team for the future like in 1989 I think we want to win now.

We are on the cusp of becoming a more serious contender now , not a couple years down the road.

If we don’t win one before we have to pay our Rookie sensations then we’ve probably wasted another great opportunity and we’ll be depending on them to carry a lesser team as the Cap tears apart our core talent.

I’m still not sure we have enough to become a championship caliber team especially at QB but the move to sign Lawrence defines it would have lessened our chances without a serious threat on DL.

We shall see how close we’ve tightened the reins between the Elite teams ahead of us.

There’s never any guarantees even if we’ve built a better contender.

Look what happened to the Saints last year who most saw as the sure participant in SB.

And a Chief team which looked Prime to go all the way with apparently all the pieces in place including MVP stud at QB.

When I look at some of the greater teams than us who didn’t make the Super Bowl or win it then it brings my expectations down a notch with this roster and QB.

I'm Pete Carroll, Win Forever!

Great book!

Bill is lucky to have Tom and both are lucky to have Gisele and all of her money.

I agree, a couple of players and this team can go toe to toe with any of them.

I think the son struggled so long to learn how to handle the cap that handling that became as important as assembling a true contender.

I laugh at these off season grades and post draft grades. They continue to try and play the game on paper.
Yep and why he’s become known as the “ cheap skate”. Daddy had to bail out his WR by committee last year or the season would have collapsed.

We saw a similar result back in 2015 with RB by committee.

Managing the Cap is a welcomed strategy by Son but you must replace those tough Cap moves with real talent.

And therein lies the separation from Belichick and the other HC's. All of the other coaches coach players, he coaches a team. Just do your job really isn't a cliché to them because they get the message, no need to worry about others doing their job because if they're not, he sits them just like he did Butler, the hero of a previous SB. There is one king.

The major difference between the Cowboys and the Patriots is that no one inside the Patriots organization wonders who's in charge. One voice, one message and a belief system beyond any in pro sports.
Watch Bills drafts. Consistently drafting high in the trenches. Thus providing almost any RB lanes and pressure on opposing QB’s.

He has his stud QB and let’s him elevate those around him while trying to give him protection and at least one key receiver. And if he’s missing a key ingredient then he goes out and gets him in FA.

Bill is the greatest defensive guru of this era but make no mistake what Brady has done. And why they are the greatest combo in NFL history.
