Are you concerned about the size of our DL?

Based on that chart the Cowboys are closer tot eh better the 4-3 defenses in weight. It isn't like the giant DL was setting people on fire last year, I would rather be around Seattle than the NYG

It will only become an issue if the offense sputters to frequently.. If we maintain possession longer it won't matter..

Didn't we have one of the smallest DL in the 90's?

I was thinking that Johnson was more for speed and not size.............Could've been just the LBer's tho.

This.

If it wasn't for O'Donnell's poor play, Bam Morris would have run the Dallas D into the ground in the Super Bowl.

Bettis was still a Ram in 1995. Bam Morris and Erric Pegram were the running backs for the Steelers in 1995.

The Steelers ran it 31 times for 103 yards in the game - not exactly effective.

It was Morris.

And it was bloody effective until O'Donnell gave the game away.

The Dallas D had not seen a rushing attack like Pittsburgh's and they would have caved if not for the success of the Dallas offense and the ineffectiveness of the Steelers passing game at crucial times.

This defense appears to be designed in a similar fashion: aggressive scheme, speed, and sure tackling. If a team has a great running game they will be challenged.

I'm a little worried mainly of injuries that happen when smaller guys go up against bigger ones.

Granted, Marinelli preaches pursuit on defense and lighter lineman should be able to do this more effectively. However, we are an extreme outlier compared to the rest of the league and giving up that much size is somewhat concerning. The defenses in Tampa Bay that Marinelli oversaw were known as prioritizing speed over size, but even that defense was anchored by two 300+ pounders in Sapp and McFarland.

Sapp and McFarland in their prime played at between 290 to 300.

One they used the wrong weights, and then when you are dealing with 4 positions you put one fat guy in the mix and everything gets skewed.

Our opening day line up will be Mincey 280, Crawford 285, Hayden 303, Lawrence 255. Which equals 280.

If you sub Gregory at 235lbs then that gets you around 260lbs. Did the article state which players they used for the weight averages?

They had Gregory starting over Mincey which is 235 vs 280 and that ruined their credibility.

That is wrong.

Crawford 288 (recent interview)
Hayden about 300
DLaw about 270

Even if they use Gregory instead of Hardy that would not bring the average down that much.

The numbers should be adjusted for the number of plays by the top 8 players of each team.

They used Gregory in one example which is how they got to 266 lbs. I posted it a couple replies back.
