I’d say no.

we have plenty of guys who can replace Fred and be more than serviceable... to trade up for him when there were still S and other Dline on the board seemed a bit “reachy” at that point

Here to proving me wrong like Fred did on his draft night when i made a donkey of myself swearing the pick all night long

This affects the OG position too because if Looney or McGovern play center it hurts OG depth. In any case, maybe the team feels Biadasz can eventually help the team do better than "serviceable". But ultimately they likely didn't see any of the safeties or D-Line options as having the same potential.

Competition is the best for guys that have not yet established themselves, and I put C. Williams in this category, I am still not sold on him. Four guys. Two spots. You win one of those spots and do well, you can make millions. If you don't, you become a journeyman backup, make substantially less.

Competition is good, and, of course there is a 3rd position in the mix, which is Zach MArtin's back up. Could even be more if they decide to work Williams some at OT. There is a lot for all these guys to compete for.

In terms of management, it's my favorite pick. They didn't have to do it. It didn't just fall in their lap. But they did it.

It's a big pick that settles the oline with continuity for the next 3 years. Simplifies camp. Badasz at C, McGovern at LG. Both playing their natural positions. Lets Williams be the swing G/T. Looney backup C/2nd G. Knight at the 2ndT/3rdG.

So you have the 5th round pick Badasz as your starting center? I would pencil in Looney as my starting C in your scenario with Badasz as the potential backup. Maybe they felt since Williams can backup both G and C they went ahead and pulled the trigger on Badasz.

Biadasz has huge shoes and beard to fill.

That said, I think that the guys on the OL can push new/young guys to step up their game.

Joe Looney stepped up his game big time 2yrs ago and I think a part of it was knowing those guys support him and him not wanting to let them down.

I'm hoping Biadasz can step right in and play well enough. It'll solidify the OL overall.

I voted No. only because it wasn’t a need until Tfred retired.

But Mike evidently stood on the table for him, so I’m fine with it.

It's looking like Lonney at Center, McGovern at LG, and Williams to swing tackle

If that's the case then this is an amazing pick. In that scenario we do not have a backup center and Looney is only under contract for one more season...........

can never go wrong picking olinemen...'specially outta wisconsin.
can't wait to watch this 3 man battle royale...Looney...McGovern...Biadasz.
pre-season can not get here fast enuff.
This pick helped give us some quality depth on the Oline. Plus we needed a good C to take Frederick's place.
Now if Tyron Smith can just stay healthy...….
