Statically speaking the majority of superbowl winning teams have a good balance of offense and defense usually within the top 10-15. Offenses in the top 10 usually have the advantage. The biggest key to playoff defenses lately have been those within the top 10 in scoring defense. Of course there's alway outliers.

ToP also plays a major roll unless you're like the chiefs who can score at will. Teams that have controlled ToP in the superbowl are 42-13. Dallas the last couple years have been in the lower half of the league. Of course ToP won't matter if your defense is trash and lets the opponent walk right down the field. Key is balance

It has never been about leading the league in anything for me. It's about doing enough to win. If you need 24 to win.. great.. if you need 34.. okay fine.. if you need 44.. yeah.. do that too if you have to. Running up the score on chumps so you can finish atop the rankings has never impressed me and never will. 24 points against the 49ers defense is more impressive than 44 against the Colts. Having the ability to win however you have to should be the goal. Rankings are for fantasy footballers and of course sports agents. .I am neither.

I kind of agree with Big Mac. To sustain playoff victories we need ball control offense, leaning on good defense is the way to go. Flashy offense which scores a lot of points against bad teams and falls flat against good teams will not get us to a championship

Yes. Efficiency is all that matters, not really volume. I'd take lesser points if it meant greater ball control and fewer drives for the opposition.

Been saying for years that TOP is critical for keeping your defense fresh. And Jerry and company refused to comprehend that. Moore refused to comprehend that. And even if you have a high octane offense, it will get shut down by good defenses from time to time, usually when it matters most like in the playoffs. There were a plethora of things wrong with the offense, which acquired most of its offensive rankings by beating up on terrible defenses. Stats like Number one offense means nothing in the long run. Did that help us against SF? No.

So yeah, I'd happily take an offense that scored a little less for a lot more TOP to help the defense so it's not gassed by the time the playoffs roll around.
