Why does NO ONE get how shocking it is to lose your starting WR and QB for all but 3 games?

We could've won a few more games with backups. Is that what you want? A few more? At most. To completely mess up the draft. You're in an offseason with a team that has NO glaring holes and a #4 pick. We get Scan back in the secondary, no matter who you draft at QB, he'll still sit behind Romo, and we have the draft and FA to pick up a defensive strength and RB. CALM. DOWN.

I cannot see that. At all. I can say that there were higher expectation re Ro, Hardy, Gregory but, my lord!, the defense was horrible this past season and the year before just mediocre that happened to play alongside a good offense.

The 2013 defense was record setting in its horridness.

The 2014 defense was improved but still protected by the running game/TOP. The lack of a rush was the fatal flaw.

The 2015 defense got no help at all. Had the worst turnover differential in the league. Yet somehow manage to keep this O-less team in the majority of the games. I personally wouldn't go with "horrible" to describe them. Combine the 2015 D with the 2014 O and we really got something going here.

I can't help but be optimistic that there is a great chance we see that play out this upcoming season.

Add some seasoning and an upgrade or two and there is plenty of reason to be optimistic that the D can show improvement again this year.

Well, hope springs eternal. But it's been 20 years and I'm getting impatient.

I'm waiting to see what happens in 2016...if we continue with 8-8 play or worse with Romo, then the long slog could be another 20 years...then we know the problem is more than talent.

 Watching some of you fans reactions is going to be almost as fun as the winning.

FYI. The injuries played a major role in our close losses. The high draft picks may be beneficial.

The odds makers don't agree with your assessments. You should put your money where your mouths are and make a killing betting against us. You have no backbone as fans. At least as posters try and stand by your predictions and make some money.

I like Witten and what he has done but he's so slow, has no moves and can't stretch the field.
Career average 11.0 yards per catch. This year it dipped to 9.3 and that is only due the crap we had throwing dink and dunk passes to him. I wouldn't exactly call a drop of 5 feet per catch as can't stretch the field.

The must get to the sb in the next 2 seasons. (Highly unlikely I know) after that dallas will basically be in rebuild mode and won't be competitive for around 5-7 years or so.

Rebuilds in the NFL (if done right), shouldn't take 5-7 years. It should take no longer than 3.

Defense was horrible? You might want to look at the stats on that one. We sucked in turnovers but it was the Defense that kept us in a lot of games as the offense could't move the ball and had many 3 and outs.

On offense: Romo and Witten as elder statesmen and increasingly slower and more fragile.
Years before we can (if we get them in the draft) develop another QB, WRs. And by the time we do develop some blue-chippers, our sterling O line might be then getting up in years.

On defense: Even with an overhauled defense, it will take several years for it to get in sync. Let's see, no run stuffers, a horrible secondary and a linebacking core that has yet to assert itself. The DE's? I see promise in our youngsters at that position.

All in all, blokes, I do not share that rose-colored view of Romo returning and all of the sudden the team marching to the playoffs.

So many positions to shore up. So many aging veterans.

I am interested to get your views as to when this team will again be ready to make a serious run.
I think, with wise drafting and shedding some players to make room capwise and impact FA's we could be fit and ready to really contend in maybe 3 years. But possibly longer.

But no sooner than that. Before we contend will come some hard years of more 8-8 (or worse) seasons.

What is your timetable for success, blokes? And, please, respond with your intellect, blokes, and not your hearts.

If you think this is an old team, you need to watch a little more. Take Brady and Gronk away and tell me how many game the Pats win. Thats all intellect. People overreact.

The Cowboys split with everyone in the division without their two best players. What does that say about those teams?

That is why I think it's absolutely critical for us to come out of this draft wth Carson Wentz.

The game is all about the QB and we have a great young OL with a young playmaking WR.

There will be a day when Romo looks as physically limited as he did in that opening game against the 49ers last year and when that happens we need to be prepared.

As far as Witten goes... He'll probably play until he's 70.

It tells me we have a team with which to be reckoned, chap!

We've been saying the same thing for 20 years!!! It doesn't take three years. It takes great coaching.
