I disagree on the RBs being a time a dozen . If they were common, there would bean impact RB on the roster.

It has become a cliche. If they were a dime a dozen...well sir Jones has lots of dimes!!!! So where is our 1500-yard runner?????

That is why I think it's absolutely critical for us to come out of this draft wth Carson Wentz.

The game is all about the QB and we have a great young OL with a young playmaking WR.

There will be a day when Romo looks as physically limited as he did in that opening game against the 49ers last year and when that happens we need to be prepared.

As far as Witten goes... He'll probably play until he's 70.

I am afraid Mr. Wentz is going to the Browns now. The hype train for him has ratcheted up a few notches. He also seems like more of a fit considering his experience throwing in colder climates than Goff. If Wentz is the dude we want, we need to move up to #1 to get him, and I wouldn't blame the Cowboys for doing so if they feel he is a franchise QB. Those guys only come so often, and it will probably take our 3rd, 4th, and a 7th to move up to do so.

I've read where there are no real franchise QB's in this draft - yet. One or two may emerge but right now if Wentz, Goff or Lynch went in previous drafts they would not be considered this highly.

What has changed however is the frenzy surrounding QB's. In a league where only half the teams have a realistic chance of winning consistently with the QB's they currently have, the urgency to find that guy is immense.

So - you are right, Wentz might go to the Browns ahead of us. One reason may be he's that good - the other reason may be they are hoping he is.

Well if that is the case, there are zero elite backs because there were zero in the NFL last season.

On the other hand, McFadden was 4th with a higher YPC than the rushing leader. If he started all 16 games, he would've finished within 100 yards of the rushing champ. I have no doubt he would've been the rushing leader if he had even an average passing game to take pressure off of him.

I do agree we can do better though.

This season's defense was scored in at the same rate as last season. They were ranked slightly better overall. The Cowboys don't need as much help on defense as mist think. They do need to stay healthy and prevent suspensions. The best help for the defense would be for the offense to score more often.

The offense scored 12 points less per game then they did last season. That is absolutely staggering. It's not just the injuries. The loss of Murray was very impactful. It took half a season to determine that the best alternative was McFadden. It took half a season for the offensive line and McFadden to become familiar with each other.

Mist of the issues this past season can be traced to injuries and poor management choices. The Cowboys will rebound in 2016 if they can avoid both.

I would think that it is worth it even if Wentz/Goff is not fully ready for two or three seasons. It was really hard to enjoy the post Aikman years. But you are right.

On offense: Romo and Witten as elder statesmen and increasingly slower and more fragile.
Years before we can (if we get them in the draft) develop another QB, WRs. And by the time we do develop some blue-chippers, our sterling O line might be then getting up in years.

On defense: Even with an overhauled defense, it will take several years for it to get in sync. Let's see, no run stuffers, a horrible secondary and a linebacking core that has yet to assert itself. The DE's? I see promise in our youngsters at that position.

All in all, blokes, I do not share that rose-colored view of Romo returning and all of the sudden the team marching to the playoffs.

So many positions to shore up. So many aging veterans.

I am interested to get your views as to when this team will again be ready to make a serious run.
I think, with wise drafting and shedding some players to make room capwise and impact FA's we could be fit and ready to really contend in maybe 3 years. But possibly longer.

But no sooner than that. Before we contend will come some hard years of more 8-8 (or worse) seasons.

What is your timetable for success, blokes? And, please, respond with your intellect, blokes, and not your hearts.

I share every single bit of your concern GTB. Perhaps Mr Aikman nailed it when he spoke to the last 20 years. Hopefully we aren't all playing shuffleboard for our livelihoods by the time this front office wises up.

The must get to the sb in the next 2 seasons. (Highly unlikely I know) after that dallas will basically be in rebuild mode and won't be competitive for around 5-7 years or so.
I hate to bust your bubble mate, we've been in rebuild mode for 20 years.

Well, I don't know about you but that Lawrence Welk Show is beginning to have appeal, especially with that Anacani gal.

My plan gives us 5 starters potentially 6.

FA- William hayes, Trumaine Johnson, hussain abdullah.

Draft-jack, austin johnson, paul perkins (not in order). Sure up the secondary, dline and lb core. Just need health luck.
