Are you surprised Schultz was not given a long term deal

I'm surprised.

Especially considering the front office "saved money" by not resigning Gregory.

They were prepared to spend very similar money on Gregory.

Guess he could still be given a new deal after the season since cap space should be available for him if he has another season like last.

Glad they didn't give him a contract though. He's going to be hungry this year and that's good for my fantasy team.

Not surprised at all. Sarge is serviceable, but not special. Ferguson being picked was a warning shot, Hendershot making the 53 says even more.

There's no reason to pay Schultz big money unless he shows he's special this season. Otherwise, let him walk and go with the cheaper options.

No Shultz is evidently not "one of their guys" The media hasnt done him any favors either, so he is not a big star. He has played good enough,
but aside from witten jones boys dont care about TE's.
Madden made witten a big star after the no helmet run, nobody in media helping ol shultz.
He could catch 5 td's in a SB game, and stephen would still lowball him

Not before, not during, not after. Also such a poor take that just because they have spare CAP on the Gregory fiasco, we should spend it for the sake of it.

No. They give set value to players and have no issues letting guys play on the tag. That being said I don't think he is a must keep at market price , so let's see how Ferg and Hendershot do

Watching the two younger TE's play so far. Seems like the same player for all 3.

I do not think they even tag if not for letting Cooper, Wilson and Turner go.

All about keeping the QB comfortable.

I think they see Schultz as a one year deal because he's not cooperating in the negotiations. He knows the TE market is expanding.

Schultz should have a good season. But I don't think it will be so great they give him a huge contract. But you never know.
We need to see how the 2 rookies do also.

For now, I think we can get a comp pick for him if they let him test the market.
But that is a long time away. He could break out this year and be great. We know he will not be bad.

..I bet they came close though. But decided to wait for draft. Good choice.

Gallup missed like 8 or 9 games.

And Schultz had a great 2020 season without Dak throwing to him.

I think Schultz is a great receiver/pass catcher but lacks blocking abilities. Definitely don't think he is worth resetting the market over but easily a top 5 or top 6 TE in the league. Plus he's always healthy which is huge considering Waller and Kittle aren't.

Just over 600 yards is a great season? Over 200 of those yards came in the first 4 games with Dak throwing to him.

No.

I think he's asking for a crap ton of money and as good as he was last year, he's not an elite game changing TE like a Travis Kelce or an athletic freak like Kyle Pitts.

I think the Cowboys probably approached him with a deal, he was unreasonable and they just tagged him and are ready to move on after this year. I think they are really going to try to get Ferguson involved at TE this year and I think they could go drafting a TE high next year, maybe even 1st or 2nd round like the Mayer kid from ND, LaPorta from Iowa or Gilbert from Georgia.

I'm not shocked that Dalton did not get a long-term deal and I'll be even less shocked when he is allowed to walk at the conclusion of this season.

Not at all.
He was not good at blocking.
Now with the young bucks, this is his last year as a Cowboy.

Now with Hendershot looking like a player too
We don't need Shultz especially at a high price.

Why do the Cowboys have to sign every player to MEGA MILLION JACKPOT when they have A career year or two?????? It's proved to be bad business on this team.....................

Seems as though the FO was bitten a few times by these huge contract snakes that someone finally put a stop to it. They drafted Ferguson & could be fine w/him serving as the TE of the future instead of paying another huge contract only to be let down.

Not giving Schultz a long term deal was a smart financial move . . . so yes I was surprised.
