Are you surprised Schultz was not given a long term deal

Ferguson is a smart, tough gem, without great 40 speed. Hard-nosed, intelligent, schooled in the way Wisconsin teaches its players. Wisconsin players always seem to be better in the Pros. Fergy has great hands. He will give the Boys a really good one-two punch, much better than last year. I am sure Fergy is getting a lot of snaps to line up outside the LT for extra help. Watch for him to block the opposing team's RDE, then slip into the left flat or cross the field underneth all the coverage.

Fergy comes NFL ready as a rookie which is a lot more than can say about other young players.

Schultz is a solid TE that moves the chains and is extremely reliable. He also makes big plays when given the chance. He is not a top tier TE like Waller, Kelsey, Kittle or Andrews
but he is teir two and is as good or better than any other teir two TEs in the league. There aren't very many good TEs in the league and you people act like they grow on trees and any big body guy can do it.

No because Schultz is a solid, but relatively easy-to-replace pass catching TE. He is a dependable and able target for Dak, but not special.

Yes, I am surprised, because a long term contract is exactly what I thought the FO would do.

Tight End will likely be near the top of the Cowboys list in the 2023 draft, IMO.

Especially considering the front office "saved money" by not resigning Gregory.

They were prepared to spend very similar money on Gregory.

Guess he could still be given a new deal after the season since cap space should be available for him if he has another season like last.

Glad they didn't give him a contract though. He's going to be hungry this year and that's good for my fantasy team.

He is not really a 10M+ type player.
- He is often schemed open.
- His blocking was a problem in 2021.

Probably not. They will be looking for OL early and often.
