My personal opinion is I 100% believe that other life is out there. I truly think that we are going to discover in the next 10,000 years that life is actually pretty common. I think that intelligent life is going to be common as well due to evolution.
As far as aliens coming to visit us? Why?
there are 5 options
1) Aliens don't care about us like we don't care about other species and would have no problems killing us. Afterall we are tied to this dirtball and they can zip around the galaxy. We can't do anything to them. They would have no problems showing themselves to us as they kill us on whims.
2) Aliens believe in the Star Trek method, no contact with lesser developed species. Hence we don't know they are there.
3) Aliens want to bring us into the fold and drastically speed up our technology advancement. they are secretly working with the government to guide our development so we can ease our selves into high levels of technology and understanding. We don't see them cause the govt is hiding them.
4) No Aliens who can travel the stars have found us
5) Aliens do not exist.

Honestly, if you think about it, any alien we encounter is going to be an apex predator. Only chance we have is to get our butts in space and higher technology levels to protect ourselves. If we encounter another alien race, we are screwed.
