Decide the approach for the offensive line. The conventional wisdom is that the Cowboys are going to sign some help in free agency, either a center or a guard. I am not so sure. Recent information that the team has been working David Arkin exclusively at the center position since the 2011 season started may offer another choice.

Stolen from the other board.

Just passing along some information I heard through the grapevine. I can't confirm it or deny it; it's just what I heard. According to some sources, including Bryan Broaddus, David Arkin is at an O-Lineman camp right now being prepared to make an impact at Center, and has already gained about 10-15 lbs in the off-season.

I'd be happy if this were true and worked out. I have my doubts though.

This would be awesome could help us save using a 3rd on a Blake or Jones. Does anyone know when the first OTA's are scheduled? Should hear more about stuff like this

It will be interest to see what Callahan makes of this group and how he sees where they fit. Houck had his own perspective I'm sure after spending time reviewing tape Callahan is forming his own.

I think it's his best position. You don't need to be 6'3" 345 guy who runs a 4.8 freak of nature to be a successful as a center in the NFL. That's not Jeff Saturday, Kevin Mawae or Matt Birk. You mostly need intelligence, some nice open space agility and some nastiness.

There is a part of me that truly believes they are are preparing to run with some combination of Nagy, Arkin, Costa and Kowalski at the 3 interior line positions, without signing a big name in free agency or drafting OL high. If brought back, guys like Kosier and Holland would then be depth or a fallback if 3 of those 4 can't cut it starting.

A little bit of a scary thought, sure, but if it worked out we would have a very young line with continuity for years to come. Let's see what Callahan can do.

Interesting. That would explain why he wasn't active for any games last year, learning a new position and all.

That would make him a 320-325 pound center, bigger than Gurode was.

Very interesting, it was known it would take him an offseason to build up, hopefully he can turn into something soon cause we definitely can't afford to waste resources at this point.

A little scared to see Romo work with his 4th center in 3 years, but Costa is terrible.

In that scenario, I would try and bring back Holland on the cheap as a fall back.

Also, it wouldn't preclude me from drafting another interior OL in April. Doesn't have to be a Day 1 pick, but I'd continue to look to develop talent there.

Man, what a sweet deal that would be if Arkin became our starting C

I don't even care if he pans out at guard, as long as he pans out.

I am still excited about the young guys on this team though. Nagy showed some ability before he got injured, and the game never seemed too big for Kowalski when he got his chances.

On the other hand, I am very concerned about Kyle Kosier.

So the Cowboys may be going with 3-4 young OL players from last year who weren't capable starting players. Using them is based on hoping/wishing. We can all hope they work out, but what happens if the season starts and these guys don't look much different from last year.

I thought we had cap space to add some good players. Yet it now sounds like there possibility Jerry isn't going to do anything to improve the OL but hopes last years' guys can step it up this year as interior OL starters. Is Jerry/Garrett really risking our offensive performance & Romo's health again? What happens if they and Callahan are wrong?

They'll still draft an O Linemen no later than round 2 IMO. According to SDogo, Callahan and others were at Cordy Glen workout yesterday.

I did not see anything it is write up saying Dallas was content with the OL. I hope like hell all of these guys are working hard but that does not mean Dallas is not going to bring in help on the OL.

Kosier is done.

Little suprised people have kind of given up on a small school guy who was drafted as a project only last year and had virtually no training camp. I think Arkin will turn out well and if it's at center all the better, though I thought Kowalski was very good in the brief time we saw him at the position.

Arkin better turn out as something as much hype as he got...

But this could be just to increase his versatility so he can be the swing G-C.

Although we need to get a vet C, I'm still interested in Kowalski.

Yeah it would seem like great news that one of our draft picks from last year is trying to develop into a contributor on this team, but alas we gotta always look at the negative of it.

Can never have enough talent, I for one, hope he does develop into our starting center. I'm just not expecting it overnight, look at how long it took Free to develop.

I don't know about looking at the negitive. I'm sure out of all the young OL players we brought in not all will pan out and you also have to have some depth along the OL. My hope is we do bring in a FA or draft an interior lineman to add to the mix.

Arkin's big problem was that he was from a small school that had NO W/T program. He is naturally big but it was thought he would need at least ONE year to physically get strong enough. There were some that thought it might take two.

Him at center would be interesting. I like Killa but am not sure he can be more than adequate (which is still worlds better then Costa)
