Calvin Johnson can be crowned the best WR in the game, I don't care. As long as we keep winning....
Would rather have.
Calvin best WR, Dez, even if he's #5 but has a SB ring, I'm ok with that.

Here is the question then. Who gets a SB first, even to just make it there. This should be fun.

This doesn't read like objective analysis but fan talk.

Calvin Johnson is the best receiver in the game.
Yes he is the best but it also shows that a great receiver doesn't really impact the game as much as other factors.

This comparison will go on as long as the great Emmitt vs. Barry debate.

Will it?

Is Dez Bryant universally considered to be one of the best WRs in the history of the NFL? He is top WR, top 2-3 in the league currently IMHO, but Des isn't a transcendent player. He just isn't. He isn't even clearly the 2nd best WR in the league -- legitimate cases could be made for AJ Green or Brandon Marshall, etc.

Didn't ever finish the project in my sig, but I saw enough to know that...

1. Calvin
2. Julio
3t. Gordon
3t. Dez
5. Green

Julio is having to prove himself right now, green is hurt and Gordon is suspended....by default, right now it doesn't look like Dez has any competition. But he is not the best WR in the NFL and he is very very close to his peak, if we haven't seen it already.

Calvin, is just on a different level. He's really the only WR that is worthy of comparison with the greats, Moss, Owens, Rice. In this era of strong WRs, he stands out as the clear cut best.

Be happy that Dez is good enough to make plays when they matter most. Having the best WR in the league isn't the most important thing. Ask Owens and Moss...they want a ring.

History has proven that -- you have to go back to maybe 2006 to find a Superbowl winning team that had a Top 2-3 elite WR on it.

It's a very weak piece.

Nevertheless, the stipulative nature of your conclusion, combined with your silence in the other currently active thread on the topic (which provides some of the objective analysis you pine for here), suggests you'd be equally dismissive of something stronger.

When healthy Calvin is the best. Period. Then there is the rest of the best. Dez, AJ, Demayrius, Julio....maybe I'm forgetting 1 but those are the main guys. Back to Calvin, he's basically a blend of the athletic freaks mentioned above plus 2-3 inches.
Calvin doesn't have the hands that Dez and AJ do.

I saw Calvin put something like 250 yards on the Cowboys the last time they played. It was a boy against man performance. I'd put him as the best.

Glad the Cowboys have Dez..he's awesome.

I guess we'll never know how many yards Dez can put up against Carr. I'm sure it would be alot.

It's a fan blog post basicallty. Gems like this scream homer fan: "But if it's up to me, I would choose Dez Bryant over the rest of them every single time because I know he can make the same plays he made Sunday every single game, no matter who you put on him."

That was sweet. My personal favorite was the folling non-sequitur:

With Cowboys head coach/offensive coordinator Jason Garrett's new-found emphasis on running, Bryant isn't seeing quite as many balls thrown his way. In fact, after five games Bryant is only averaging 11.8 yards per reception

Sorry: fewer targets somehow relates to lower ypc? Why?

I don't mean to hack on the author (who knows: he may even be a Zoner) but this sort of stuff can't be the basis upon which to found a claim as bold as "Dez Bryant is the best".

The author makes some good points in the article, although imo a healthy Calvin Johnson is still the best around.

No he's not, not by a long shot.

That tittle still belongs to Megatron. I believe Dez is number 2 in the NFL, at worst number 3.

Marshall could be in consideration for number 2 when healthy. I might take Dez over him, but that could be the homer in me. Not a big enough homer though to say he's better than Tron though. That's disgusting, and disrespectful.

If Megatron was a Cowboy and Dez was a Lion and Lion fans started to make a case for Dez being the best WR in the game, there would be an outrage throughout the entire country from Cowboy nation. Stop being homers and just give credit to players who have earned their #1 position.

If we were trying to pad Dez stats....we would go all out to get him the ball....like they do with Megatron. We are trying to win games....so if you double Dez....we are going to run for 150 yards. And that is how you play WINNING football. Mike Irvin understood this...and he has got 3 rings and is in the HOF. Dez understands this as well. And hopefully he will get the rings and gold jacket one day as well.

Where did I say we were trying to pad his stats?

I am not trying to say "you" said that. I am simply stating that on a "running" team...getting your #1 WR the ball 12 times a game is NOT a priority...and NOT what we consider to be the formula for winning.

I think Dez would put up huge numbers on a team just looking to throw around the yard all day. Much like Mike Irvin could have. Much like Troy Aikman could have. But Dallas has a formula for winning that requires spreading the wealth and everyone making sacrifices.

They've lowered the bar for this guy.

He's one garbage time TD catch and an overtime catch gone from putting up pretty pedestrian numbers in his last eight quarters of football.

Personally, I was expecting Dez to handle double team better. Calvin Johnson has been handling them since his first year. I would say Dez is in the top 5 and leave it at that.
