Article: Dez Bryant is the best receiver in the NFL

Dez is certainly the most reliable as of late. AJ Green and C. Johnson are amazing in their own rights but have had trouble staying on the field with recurring injuries...

ETA: Also, Dez leads the pack with in terms of "ridiculous catch" factor. Talk about incredible athleticism and hand eye coordination.

I don't know about that... but I'm glad we have him...
he's a really good receiver who hasn't reached his ceiling yet.

My problem with this is...let's say Joseph (a pretty decent corner) turns around and locates the ball and comes down with an int (definetly feasible on this play) the thesis becomes...romo has to stop forcing it to dez and we have to live to fight another down(I know it was 3rd down) but since he made a great catch it was "he put dez I. A spot to go up and make a play" While that's fine..it's not automatic like this article makes it out

I'm glad we have Dez too, but I'd still like to see more creativity in using him. I'd also like to see us spread the ball around a lot more.

Both these things would make things a lot more difficult for defenses to deal with.

The author makes some good points in the article, although imo a healthy Calvin Johnson is still the best around.

I agree with both of these......especially with more creativity with Dez.

Dez has to be the person who's double teamed the most in the NFL. For goodness sake, they cover him like a punt gunner at times. Williams will have a career day soon and now teams will have a serious problem on their hands with whom to double. One on one with Dez *when healthy* is unfair. You may run stride by stride with him, but you won't out jump our out muscle him for the ball when he's healthy.

Actually I read that stat on some site that Dez actually is the most double teamed receiver in the league. Not sure how true that was though.

As much as I'm partial to Dez, gotta say I honestly believe it's a serious stretch to put him on an equal or better plane as compared to Calvin Johnson. Due to his height, CJ is totally dominant whether he's open or not and also possesses the kind of top-end speed that Dez lacks. Sorry but placing Dez at that level isn't being objective. I really don't doubt that Dez draws plenty of coverage but as the same token, there's no doubt that CJ does as well. Let's be a bit more objective about this thing. There's no shame in Dez being a bit less of a threat than Calvin Johnson.

To me if you have Dez Bryant one on one against any DB in the NFL even someone like Sherman, you throw it to Dez. Sure you can make a bit of a bad under throw and have it picked. But if you throw it with any air under it Dez will compete and at least force an incompletion and most times get a catch. But a reward in that type of situation far outweighs anything else.

When healthy Calvin is the best. Period. Then there is the rest of the best. Dez, AJ, Demayrius, Julio....maybe I'm forgetting 1 but those are the main guys. Back to Calvin, he's basically a blend of the athletic freaks mentioned above plus 2-3 inches.

If we were trying to pad Dez stats....we would go all out to get him the ball....like they do with Megatron. We are trying to win games....so if you double Dez....we are going to run for 150 yards. And that is how you play WINNING football. Mike Irvin understood this...and he has got 3 rings and is in the HOF. Dez understands this as well. And hopefully he will get the rings and gold jacket one day as well.

I saw Calvin put something like 250 yards on the Cowboys the last time they played. It was a boy against man performance. I'd put him as the best.

Glad the Cowboys have Dez..he's awesome.

Calvin Johnson is the most talented in the league. Detroit just finds ways to lose a lot more than win. We talk about being average as a bad thing. The Lions would love to be average.
