It doesn't appear that Scandrick, lacks of any self confidence and as compared to Nate Jones, he has to be an upgrade, he certainly could be any worse.:D

Scandrick is athletically more gifted than Jones (by far). Combine that with better instincts than Reeves and really this kid is a heck of an upgrade over what we had last season. He may not start off the season looking good, but by the end of the season we should start seeing glimpses of what this kid can do in the future.

I didn't think it warranted more than that. Frankly it wasn't an interesting hypothesis.

I've been on record previously saying, don't be shocked if Scandrick turns out to be the best corner Dallas drafted in 2008... Not saying Jenkins won't be a decent player.

Players fall all the time - sometimes for good reasons, sometimes just because people get a certain vibe.

He is ours now so why worry about where he was drafted and why he fell. We'll get a feel for how good he is in preseason/TC.

Interestingly enough, Miami didn't draft a CB all weekend.
I am most excited about the Scandrick pick. Of course you want your top picks to be good/great but if your lower round selections turn out to be players, then it shows that your front office and scouting dept are doing their job.

I never understood the well he was drafted in this round. To many fans and media rely on this crutch about a players talent etc. Some times players get over rated; sometimes they have off the field alcohol etc issues sometimes they have no passion and are just cashing a check.

What it boils down to is not where you are drafted but what you do once you get into the NFL that is the bottom line

funny no, just a reflection of how I feel Jerry has bent over for Parcells in their previous dealings, thats all.

oh yeah, we got a 4th and two 6th rd picks for spare parts, 2 of whom probably would have been released anyway

as for the coaches and front office people, who cares...Sparano was a mediocre OL coach IMO, Bowles never developed anything in our secondary and our all pro calibar SS got worse and worse under him...and Rogers was probably one of the worst DL coaches in football...we replaced those 3 with very highly regarded position coaches...

Dolphins eyeing Boise St. CB Scandrick
By Carlos "Big C" Holmes
Dayton Daily News/Cox News Service
April 25, 2008

The Miami Dolphins got off to a great start on Tuesday addressing their draft day needs when they selected and signed Michigan OT Jake Long as the first overall pick. Now that the No. 1 pick is signed, sealed and delivered, the organization can begin focusing in on their two second-round picks No. 32 and No. 57 respectfully.

The team is expected to address their need at quarterback with the first of their two second-round choices and Michigan QB Chad Henne could likely be the pick. However, the Dolphins would prefer to see Louisville QB Brian Brohm still available, but no way does he fall to round two_Orlando Scandrick

With the second pick, it is believed that the team will look to address the secondary and Boise State CB Orlando Scandrick could be a possible target.

Word out of Dolphins camp is that the Scandrick ranks high on the team’s draft board among defensive backs and would provide the team with some speed at the cornerback position. Scandrick ran a 4.32 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine in February and has seen his draft stock soar since then. Once projected as a fifth-round selection, he is now expected to go as early as the second-round.

Scandrick has received a ton of interest from NFL teams since his work out in Indy. He made pre-draft visits to Baltimore, San Diego, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh. Cleveland also worked the player out.

At 5-11, 195 pounds Scandrick is a nice size corner with outstanding quickness and good ball skills. He’s a player who is not afraid to mix it up. Scandrick is most comfortable playing in man-to-man and press coverage. He was considered a shutdown corner in college because teams rarely threw his way. Scandrick also has value on special-teams, blocking four kicks in '07.

With the Dolphins changing to a more attacking style team defense, that would be right up Scandrick’s alley.

“I would fit in good with an aggressive style defense,” he said. “A team with a defensive line who rushes the quarterback putting him under duress and pressure would allow me to make some big plays and show my athletic ability.”

Scandrick is a true competitor with upside potential and never met a receiver who struck fear in his heart. He had the opportunity to match-up with the top receiver in this year’s draft Michigan State wideout Devin Thomas when training at Perfect Competition in preparation for the draft. According to Scandrick, he held his own against the top ranked receiver.

“When facing a guy like that you have to be disciplined. Discipline will beat athletic talent any day,” he said. “Devin beat me a couple of times, but I did my thing and held it down.”

NFL scouts believe that Scandrick is the real deal and the Dolphins appear ready to pull the trigger on the savvy defensive back. If not in the second-round at the top of round three providing he is still available. Scandrick is turning into one of the more sought after players in the draft.

does anyone know why he fell so far in the draft?

I think he was a little bit of a fall. Not a lot seeing as how he was a 4-5 pick coming out his junior year as a non-prominent player who escalated some pre-draft due to his forty and a good combine. And there is always the unexplicable reason as to why a player falls. I've always wondered if it's like the home on the market a little too long. Well it's been on the market too long because everyone knows something you don't. Why did Witten fall to the third? Cause. Not a real answer for you but I think it's the right one. Plus he put off some people who saw him as a player who hadn't done a lot and was blowing his horn a lot.

It is more attacking. And more risky than steady Bill who is the turtle and not the hare.

"Discipline will beat athletic talent any day."

I thought this was an interesting quote, especially coming from a young player who has a lot of athletic ability.

Maybe Scandrick gets it.

As for why Scandrick fell, I think his ranking was anywhere from round 2 of the Draft to Round 4.

I remember Goose had him in his Top 100 - somewhere around 87ish, if my memory serves me correctly - which would have put him firmly in Round 3.

So, I guess slipping to Round 4 wouldn't have been a huge deal, though getting him in Round 5 was a hopefully a bargain.

He didn't fall, as far as I'm concerned.

The kid was projected 4-5th round and then he ran a 4.3 40 and everyone started hyping him up and he climbed on websites and blogs to being a 2nd round prospect.

Just like some people were pimping Justin King as a 2nd - early 3rd prospect because of his fourty, I think some mocks even had him as a 1st rounder.

Nobody shot up the draft boards like Rogers-Cromartie did. The Cardinals couldn't wait to make him the first CB off the board. Why? Speed and a great combine. Maybe the Cardinals hit, but I'd rather wait for the 4th round to start taking fliers on a CB. Scandrick was a good value and could develop into a steal if he is as good as some people expect.

it's good that he held his own against Devin Thomas, because in the future, he may have to line up across from him twice every year
