This is my take on the Eagles then and now:

Yeah-they've been head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC, but...

In the early goings and for awhile they were "that team who made few mistakes and forced other teams to play a perfect game"-remember that Giants game at the Meadowlands in '01 where the Gints missed a bunch of FGs in the game, which all but opened the door for a last minute comeback by Philly?(and if memory serves, the Gints blew it as well in the 2nd game) Remember that '03 game in the Meadowlands where the Gints smacked the Eagles 3-1 Statistically, but just self-destructed throughout, and lost the game at the end due to an ST blunder?

And there were other games where they won not b/c they "were far better", but the other team self-destructed(Carolina played some poor STs in '03 reg season despite gashing them, New Orleans self destructed in that '03 reg season game too, even less not forget GB *twice* that same year-4th and 46?? Anyone??)-yeah, they ended up winning ALOT of games they had no business doing so.

Now-look at what happened in recent years-they lose to the Packers due to bad STs(despite manhandling them), they blow a 17 pt 4th quarter lead to the Gints last year at FFF, they lost to the Saints b/c of a 12 men on the field penalty, and, of course, that 62 yard FG that the Bucs used to beat them. And now it's funny how Eagles fans are whining and crying how "they self destructed"...

The pt being here is that what comes around, goes around-they had their golden opportunities, they had their fun under the sun, now slowly but surely, their window is starting to shut.

Without a doubt, they will still be contenders-but it's going to come ALOT tougher now, especially with the NFC comp getting much tougher.

And that Andy Reid under utilizes Brian Westbrook when McNabb is the QB, but uses him correctly when the back up QB is playing.

Ding ding ding! I think you've nailed it. Andy Reid gets pass happy when McNabb is healthy and goes into "lets actually USE Westbrook in the running game" when he's not. Why not be more balanced and give your whole team a bigger chance of success?

Then again, don't do that. ;)

They actually had a balanced O against GB, but some of their playcalling was suspect, nonetheless.

To me, McNabb seems like he just doesn't understand the WCO all that well-of course, it's a pass first, to set up the run kind of O. One of DMac's weaknesses is getting rid of the ball quickly-I dunno, it seems like Reid is just trying to play to his strengths by making the O vertical.

McNabb also seems to struggle with being consistantly accurate. He goes off the reservation sometimes and will skip a ball in here and there. Some inaccuracy + not getting rid of the ball all that quickly = not so good for the WCO.

However, he makes up for it a lot of the time with the big play and he can extend a play long enough to turn it into a big one by running around.

Saying all of this, he's still one of the best QBs in the league. Period. He has his weaknesses like any other, but also has some serious strengths. He just needs to stay healthy and I believe needs a different kind of offense to TRULY show his strengths.
