But how would we evaluate players like Trance?
In practice against players he would rarely see in a pre-season game - starters on defense and against defensive schemes that simulate real game action.

PS games are unrealistic. If a backup QB looks great against guys who mostly will never play in the regular season if they even make the team, what have we really learned? It’s why every year we get hyped about some guys who look great in ps games but never do much when the live regular season bullets start. PS games are unrealistic.

I agree 100%. But our fans have in their head Trance has never been giving a chance and he will finally get it this year in pre season games.

As NFLPA braces for 18-game push, plenty of younger players have no problem with it

The NFL has wanted to expand the regular season to 18 games for years. It accepted 17 as a compromise, a stepping stone toward more.

And it’s just a matter of time before the NFL makes its move to move the line between regular-season and preseason games from 17 and three to 18 and two.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL Players Association is already bracing for it. And one of the things the NFLPA has to ponder is whether and to what extent the players want it.

There’s a sense, we’re told, that plenty of young players are fine with it. Their votes count the same as the older players who bristle at adding to the workload.

Although comments from the Commissioner in late April boosted the conversation, the truth is that the issue first returned to the front burner when Browns G.M. Andrew Berry explained on PFT Live from the Scouting Combine that Cleveland had proposed a two-week delay in the trade deadline to account for the 17th regular-season game — and in anticipation of an 18th.

18 games likely will mean bigger rosters, more players in uniform on game day

This was always the plan to go to 18 games.

Before they went to 17 games and planned for 18, GM's and Coaches pretty much unanimously stated they don't need preseason games to evaluate players.

It’s a no-brainer to me. I’m still surprised that the league bothered with 17 games at all.

18 games with two bye weeks per team gives them a 5-month regular season with at least an additional month of playoff games.

Half the year.

The only purpose PS serves now is to see who stands out among the scrubs. And to give rookies a chance to play. I wouldn't remove it totally. Practice alone doesn't provide for that. But I agree that looking good in preseason does not mean they'll look good in regular season. Hell, both Brady and Kurt Warner needed injuries to play. Practice or preseason didn't help their case.

Wish the owners were as proactive upgrading the quality of officials as they are adding regular season games (cha-CHING!)
Money attracts the best talent. Make the job lucrative and there will be more competition. That's why our soccer team can't compete with Europe. They're pulling from a much wider talent pool.

Older players are the ones that have been getting paid their entire careers. They make enough money that they dont need the extra game. I heard a comment yesterday that was perfect. Today/s players want to show up to work on Zoom. They try to get less and less time with the team. No practice days, no contact days. They want to play football, they want to get paid for being an NFL player, but they dont want to actually do the work required to be an nFL player.

18 games has been done in Canada since 1986 and Ive never heard of one of them dying due to their schedue.

This would be coo, if they make the super land on the holiday weekend in February. That way the day after the super bowl is a day off.

Just expand the rosters too and I think all will be fine.

Teams can already protect four players a week off a 16 man practice squad, so why not just increase active rosters from 53 to 57 and allow more than just 48 to be active for a game?
