I can see where he's getting at, but it's just one play, he's jumped routes before and made picks , or broke up the pass that way, many more times

Yeah... I think Eli realized as he was releasing that his guy wasnt there and sailed the ball at the last second too.

I only saw the play once... didnt Assante look down at the ground before he secured the ball... is that why he dropped it or was it just too high anyways?

I also only saw it once and have been wondering what happened on it.

I'm sure that play will eat at Samuel the rest of his life. I heard he said he let the perfect season slip through his hands.

It's amazing when you think that all the stories coming after the SB are completely different and "The Greatest Play in SB History" never happens if Samuel just hangs onto that ball. That would kill me if I were a Pats fan.

He was just to short to make that catch, I kinda think Newman makes that play;)

Maybe we need to take all these WR's that cannot run routes and convert them to CB's............

It was pretty high and he did get his hands on it. He probably should have made the play but it would have been a tough catch for most people to make who are DBs. There is that old saying, remember, that there is a reason they're playing DB and not WR.

In watching the SB replay. I had forgot that Asante Samuel could have ending the game if he would have intercepted the sideline pass.

We already have CBs that don't make the winning int. We need to Pass on AS.
Asante Samual is an ALL Pro. Newman finally made a Pro Bowl. Not quite equal.

Well by that Standard then Greg Ellis is terrible.

Fred Taylor has been a bust.

All pro and Probowl honors do not always an accurate judging tool make.

From judging a player on one play to finding a way to bash Newman... This thread sucks.

That is one ugly thing about the Zone.
A few self-appointed, arrogant busybodies anoint themselves the judges of what sucks and what doesn't.

The man was just making a statement of how he sees it. A post of opinion.

You could have just passed this thread by. Or just grinned and beared it.

But no, you post a self-righteous post about how this or that sucks.

However the subject matter did or did not, the arrogant, snide and smug statement of yours is what really sucks.

You can untwist them now.:)

For everyone that thinks Samuel is too short, wasn't Deion pretty dimunitive? Or how about Darrell Green (5'7"). You're right, those guys never amounted to anything...

Newman is Better Covering his man one on one. Samuel is better at Jumping Routes in zone coverage and Pressing his man at the LOS. If age does not matter I rather have Newman.

Samuels makes more plays BUT he also gives up more plays. Newman is more consistent. And in the end Newman is better. Not be a huge margin, but better.

Your are exactly right--let's try drafting a good one like SD Chargers did.

Thats a good point, he (Cromartie) was taken what???....oh thats rt, the spot AFTER we took Ol' Bobby Carp.

Freakin Parcells...that pick, more than any other...haunts me. :bang2:

And it was during Parcells time when we got Ware, I will be forever greatful for that.

Let's not get into who was drafter behind or ahead of who. No one knows how a player will turn out. How many QBs were picked before Brady?

Exactly. Hindsight is 20/20.

Whatever, here's my standard

Samuals- 16 picks in the last two years.

Newman- 5 picks in the last 2 years.

and on top of that, the Patriot's play at least one of their safeties up on the line alot. Newman gets alot of safety help.

When Harrison is up like that, there are still two safeties deep the majority of the time (Sanders and Merriweather, mostly). Harrison is used almost exactly like we used Roy last season.

I'll agree Newman doesn't get tons of picks. Be it cause he lets a couple slip out of his hands (Like he did a couple of times this year) and just as much cause they don't throw his way a whole lot.

If Asante should have caught the ball, Eli shouldn't have sailed the ball...

No....Deion was a big CB.

He was a bout 6-1 or 6-2 and weighed around 200-210 pounds. He was strong as well....very broad shoulders.

That's what really made him special. The fact that he could push and shove bigger receivers, then run with smaller ones. Michael Irvin used to talk about getting chucked by Deion......he said it was quite a jolt.
