Assuming McCarthy stays, who are the best DC prospects in the NFL?

I have to assume Dan Quinn is leaving the Cowboys. But I don’t expect Mike McCarthy to be fired after the best 3 year stretch of winning the Cowboys have had in a long while. So the Cowboys need a new defensive coordinator, and this is likely the most important offseason acquisition the Cowboys will make this year.

There are obvious flaws in the Dan Quinn scheme - run defense being the biggest issue. They also rely too heavily on man defense. The defense broke down in several blow out losses this year in Arizona, San Francisco, Buffalo and against Green Bay. When the offense rallied late against Miami, the defense was unable to get a stop to preserve the lead.

The Cowboys need a good strong linebacker in the middle. They need a better rotation at the 3-tech position, and need to keep taking shots at the 1-tech until they find a solution. With Lewis being too slow, and the break down of Gilmore, they need a speedy CB on the outside, and to move Bland back to the slot. Maybe Eric Scott develops, but they really need speed on the outside, which isn’t the forte of either Diggs, Bland or Scott. Hooker may be the fastest DB on the field. Scott and Bland are better suited for the slot position. Also, they need to move Markquese Bell back to safety and let Kearse walk.

Also, they need a RB and Center on offense, and a much more effective run blocking scheme. I think Biadasz causes problems in the run scheme by getting pushed around too much, which requires Zack Martin to compensate. This leaves Steele on an island, and he obviously took a step backward this season coming off the knee injury. The Cowboys can move on from Gallup, and have a decent 5-man rotation at WR with Lamb, Cooks, Turpin, Tolbert and Brooks. They are set at TE with 5 options of Ferguson, Schoonmaker, Hendershot, McKeon, and Stephens.

What players do you think have played their last games in Dallas?

They will get a retread and probably a buddy of his. We got lucky with Quinn.

Hell I say that though...maybe Jerry sells him to get Brandon Staley who sucks IMO but he will probably take the job to take over for Mike when he eventually gets fired.

I'm starting to think that the only way mccarthy stays is if quinn stays. If quinn leaves, you gotta bring in a new dc with a new system or promote someone to try to maintain DCs scheme, and if mccarthy is fired/not renewed next year, the next coach would likely want to bring their own people and now you'd have to do it all over again

Ugh. I want MM out. The guy isn’t good. His play calling is subpar, time management sucks. He isn’t good on adjusting in game. If he stays we won’t improve at all. We’ll have success in the regular season and lose in the playoffs per usual.

This sounds nuts, but would it be that crazy to hire BB as the next Defensive coord? What if he doesnt wanna be a HC anymore? Now this next idea isn't something I luv, but knowing how Jerry feels about Mike Zimmer, would they hire him as the next DC or even HC?

he has not adapted in all the years he has been a defensive coordinator so we need a younger guy who understands todays offenses
I agree. But knowing how they luv Zimmer in that building in Frisco, u can better believe they are having this conversation about him.

off this list...I think Armstrong will remain here. The rest are long gone.

Of all the open Head Coaching jobs, I think the job in Washington is the most attractive. I realize many people are saying the Chargers because of Justin Herbert, but he’s been a huge disappointment, and as a coach, I would rather pick my own QB in Washington.

Tyron Smith will either retire or brought back on a 1yr deal but might be moved to Swing Tackle cause hes not durable anymore.
I dont see them moving from Pollard. He still had 1000 yards this season besides sucking in a terrible run O-Line scheme and they paid him big bucks last season. Guess is they draft a workhorse back in Round 2 or 3 and hope he gets back to his 2022 performance not having to run through the garbage and waste energy.
Cooper Rush might be brought back again on a 1yr deal.

Biadasz will be let go, Gallup too. Needs to be done to free cap space

Lewis i think they bring back on a cheap deal
Hankins will be brought back on a 1yr deal since hes the only 1 Tech that can play on the Cowboys
I think they will try to bring Armstrong back, maybe even Fowler on a 1yr deal

Kearse will be let go, Gallimore too
