Assuming McCarthy stays, who are the best DC prospects in the NFL?

Agree. This feels sort of like 2019 when Jason Garrett got let go but in a super soft way and they just let his contract expire so he never really got "fired". I have a feeling that there is a ton of activity going on behind the scenes.
exactly. Its just semantics I think, being worked out...the spin if u will. To make it appear as if he just retired or something. Its a win win. Both sides can play nice and pretend they still luv each other.

If they would promote from within would the defense virtually have the same flaws as with DQ?
I see them finding an outside guy. I think DQ is taking some guys with him. If the let MM go via retirement or whatever, they won't promote from within. It will be a fresh start staff wise. But 1 move I can see is Zimmer. Much hinges on what DQ does and MM.

Ugh. I want MM out. The guy isn’t good. His play calling is subpar, time management sucks. He isn’t good on adjusting in game. If he stays we won’t improve at all. We’ll have success in the regular season and lose in the playoffs per usual.
Seriously! Undisciplined, unprepared, unmotivated, soft team……McCarthy can’t fix that.

I have to assume Dan Quinn is leaving the Cowboys. But I don’t expect Mike McCarthy to be fired after the best 3 year stretch of winning the Cowboys have had in a long while. So the Cowboys need a new defensive coordinator, and this is likely the most important offseason acquisition the Cowboys will make this year.

There are obvious flaws in the Dan Quinn scheme - run defense being the biggest issue. They also rely too heavily on man defense. The defense broke down in several blow out losses this year in Arizona, San Francisco, Buffalo and against Green Bay. When the offense rallied late against Miami, the defense was unable to get a stop to preserve the lead.

The Cowboys need a good strong linebacker in the middle. They need a better rotation at the 3-tech position, and need to keep taking shots at the 1-tech until they find a solution. With Lewis being too slow, and the break down of Gilmore, they need a speedy CB on the outside, and to move Bland back to the slot. Maybe Eric Scott develops, but they really need speed on the outside, which isn’t the forte of either Diggs, Bland or Scott. Hooker may be the fastest DB on the field. Scott and Bland are better suited for the slot position. Also, they need to move Markquese Bell back to safety and let Kearse walk.

Also, they need a RB and Center on offense, and a much more effective run blocking scheme. I think Biadasz causes problems in the run scheme by getting pushed around too much, which requires Zack Martin to compensate. This leaves Steele on an island, and he obviously took a step backward this season coming off the knee injury. The Cowboys can move on from Gallup, and have a decent 5-man rotation at WR with Lamb, Cooks, Turpin, Tolbert and Brooks. They are set at TE with 5 options of Ferguson, Schoonmaker, Hendershot, McKeon, and Stephens.

What players do you think have played their last games in Dallas?
I believe Al Harris or Joe Witt will be promoted to DC if Quinn leaves. Probably Witt.

Just for the record I want McCarthy out, but I don’t think it happens.

Interesting tidbit, Whitt and Harris have connection with Mike Zimmer as well. U might be on to something. Maybe zim comes in here as an oversee-er or defensive consultant "quality control" guy.

If they bring MM back this team will lose some fans. Jerry has used up all the patience of every Cowboy fan I know. People are flat out tired of Jerry and his family.
this^ Is a fact. I am 1 of them. I just can't support the club if they get the gang back together. The NFL stands for not for long and what got us 12 wins might not be what wins next year. Things get stale fast in this league. U get figured out. Then the trend that MM and DQ have is THEY CAN'T WIN THE BIG PLAYOFF GAME. Running it back would be a bad signal to the fans. Sometimes change can be a great thing. Just ask the Texans what change can do in 1 offseason!
