Assuming McCarthy stays, who are the best DC prospects in the NFL?

They’ll promote from within. Think about it, if you have a HC in his contract year are you going to sign a DC to a multi year deal? Would a DC worth his weight accept a 1 year deal?

I see a major overhaul coming. Jerry and Steven , the body language and whats not being said is telling me this. I think it will be shock and awe.

You only promote from within on D if your keeping MM. I feel MM is gonna be getting "retired." He will cite family and health. U just watch.

Agree. This feels sort of like 2019 when Jason Garrett got let go but in a super soft way and they just let his contract expire so he never really got "fired". I have a feeling that there is a ton of activity going on behind the scenes.

I have to assume Dan Quinn is leaving the Cowboys. But I don’t expect Mike McCarthy to be fired after the best 3 year stretch of winning the Cowboys have had in a long while. So the Cowboys need a new defensive coordinator, and this is likely the most important offseason acquisition the Cowboys will make this year.

There are obvious flaws in the Dan Quinn scheme - run defense being the biggest issue. They also rely too heavily on man defense. The defense broke down in several blow out losses this year in Arizona, San Francisco, Buffalo and against Green Bay. When the offense rallied late against Miami, the defense was unable to get a stop to preserve the lead.

The Cowboys need a good strong linebacker in the middle. They need a better rotation at the 3-tech position, and need to keep taking shots at the 1-tech until they find a solution. With Lewis being too slow, and the break down of Gilmore, they need a speedy CB on the outside, and to move Bland back to the slot. Maybe Eric Scott develops, but they really need speed on the outside, which isn’t the forte of either Diggs, Bland or Scott. Hooker may be the fastest DB on the field. Scott and Bland are better suited for the slot position. Also, they need to move Markquese Bell back to safety and let Kearse walk.

Also, they need a RB and Center on offense, and a much more effective run blocking scheme. I think Biadasz causes problems in the run scheme by getting pushed around too much, which requires Zack Martin to compensate. This leaves Steele on an island, and he obviously took a step backward this season coming off the knee injury. The Cowboys can move on from Gallup, and have a decent 5-man rotation at WR with Lamb, Cooks, Turpin, Tolbert and Brooks. They are set at TE with 5 options of Ferguson, Schoonmaker, Hendershot, McKeon, and Stephens.

What players do you think have played their last games in Dallas?
I don't think it's about 3 winning (regular) seasons if we are gonna automatically clunked in the playoffs.
McCarthy was hired to be that over the huddle HC, that gets us advanced into the NFC title game and more.
But not only is it the same ole,.same ole playoff exit, but we got utterly slaughtered in the first playoff game at home where we supposed to be near invincible and to an 8th seed playoff team that barely made the playoffs.

that;s a mark on McCarthy that his team was not prepared or motivated to play it's playoff game.- on both sides of the ball.

Also teams apparently are able to " blue print " scheme Dak to confuse and frustrate him into panic reads, bad throws, stalls and bad decisions. What is his play caller done to remedy this ?

I only think McCarthy returns, if the Cowboys just are not convinced with what available is still out there. and he is still the best option ( in their minds) if we can get the defense and run game going.

Poor un game is on him, the subpar play of the OL is on him, Mike Solari was his OL coach hire, Brian Schott was his OC hire,.. it was Mac's decision to move OL asst. coach Jeff Blasko to RB coach, ..and one of the major disappointments has been the run block scheme, and how the RBs have not been exploited in the pass game

..after this huge debacle. DQ is probably gone.

FIred or removes himself elsewhere.

To many games where defense forgot to tie their shoes.

As for WHO as DC? I dont care, just get someone else to have crack at it.

This sounds nuts, but would it be that crazy to hire BB as the next Defensive coord? What if he doesnt wanna be a HC anymore? Now this next idea isn't something I luv, but knowing how Jerry feels about Mike Zimmer, would they hire him as the next DC or even HC?
The only reason Belichick hasn't retired is that he wants Shula's win record. He can't get that as a DC.

He's probably also got at least a passing interest in being the first coach to get a Super Bowl with two teams, another stat he can't get as DC, but people that know him say Shula's record is way more important to him than that, and when he has it, he's going fishing.

If they would promote from within would the defense virtually have the same flaws as with DQ?

Exactly right. If we are riding out Mike's contract, they'll do the same for all staff. Whitt will be the DC unless he leaves

Tyron Smith will either retire or brought back on a 1yr deal but might be moved to Swing Tackle cause hes not durable anymore.
I dont see them moving from Pollard. He still had 1000 yards this season besides sucking in a terrible run O-Line scheme and they paid him big bucks last season. Guess is they draft a workhorse back in Round 2 or 3 and hope he gets back to his 2022 performance not having to run through the garbage and waste energy.
Cooper Rush might be brought back again on a 1yr deal.

Biadasz will be let go, Gallup too. Needs to be done to free cap space

Lewis i think they bring back on a cheap deal
Hankins will be brought back on a 1yr deal since hes the only 1 Tech that can play on the Cowboys
I think they will try to bring Armstrong back, maybe even Fowler on a 1yr deal

Kearse will be let go, Gallimore too
what big bucks? he is on a FT.

Gilmoure can come back if he wants to run it back again, with Diggs and Bland otherwise we need to draft another CB early.

Best would be to draft a AP C late in the first
