Assuming McCarthy stays, who are the best DC prospects in the NFL?

This sounds nuts, but would it be that crazy to hire BB as the next Defensive coord? What if he doesnt wanna be a HC anymore? Now this next idea isn't something I luv, but knowing how Jerry feels about Mike Zimmer, would they hire him as the next DC or even HC?
Of course that would be an excellent option except there is no chance in the world BB would accept this. BB working as a DC for Mccarthy? Really?

A coach from Baltimore I think on the DL or something
I was thinking the same thing. Look for teams with historically good defenses, especially against the run. Interview their coaches to see if any ins ready for a step up to DC. Baltimore is a good place to start. SF might also have a candidate or two. I would include Al Harris in that group. I want a DC who believes in being big and physical in the trenches.

We need a dirtbag as defensive coordinator. Somebody whose nastiness is going to rub off on the defense. Stop hiring these nice guys and bring in somebody the players fear.

The way the Cowboys scouting is set up the coordinators provide what they are looking for and McClay etc al go find those traits/ players.

Whomever the new DC is I really hope they place premium on a big DT and big fast lbers.

This is one reason I'm intrigued by McDonald from Ravens as HC. He'd bring that tough physical defense mentality and premium on big DT

This D needs a new philosophy

Larry Foote - Buccaneers passing game coordinator and ILB coach
  • Steelers LB and 2X SB Champ
  • 5 yrs. with Bowles on TB Staff. Has improved every unit he coached during his tenure
  • The Bucs D is solid and physical. Foote played on some physical and tough Ds as a well in Pitt and AZ
  • Worth an interview. The Cowboys need to get back basics on D and drop the hybrid stunt circus crap

They will get a retread and probably a buddy of his. We got lucky with Quinn.

Hell I say that though...maybe Jerry sells him to get Brandon Staley who sucks IMO but he will probably take the job to take over for Mike when he eventually gets fired.
Mike zimmer…a jerry Lackey

Flores is already a DCoord...who is getting head coaching looks.

Even if he doesn't get one....you can't hire another team's DCoord for the same position. .....(unless they fire him...but Vikes are hoping he doesn't get a head coaching gig so that he remains with them...so they ain't firing him)

Not that it matters but Quinn's MAN defense didn't breakdown against GB. His ZONE defense did. Still baffled that you abandon the scheme that got you the two seed in the playoffs. You imagine walking into the defensive meeting to receive the gameplan only to have the coach change everything you've known for the past four months? That's some high school crap right there.

I hear you, but Dallas ran a hybrid defense all year.
We ran man a lot though and yes, it was baffling..... especially given that Love has worse stats vs man coverage.

Ugh. I want MM out. The guy isn’t good. His play calling is subpar, time management sucks. He isn’t good on adjusting in game. If he stays we won’t improve at all. We’ll have success in the regular season and lose in the playoffs per usual.
Yes, but this is a “what if” thread and, I’m afraid to say it, but we might need to get prepared.

Agree. This feels sort of like 2019 when Jason Garrett got let go but in a super soft way and they just let his contract expire so he never really got "fired". I have a feeling that there is a ton of activity going on behind the scenes.
Except MM is still under contract for one more year.

Tyron Smith will either retire or brought back on a 1yr deal but might be moved to Swing Tackle cause hes not durable anymore.
I dont see them moving from Pollard. He still had 1000 yards this season besides sucking in a terrible run O-Line scheme and they paid him big bucks last season. Guess is they draft a workhorse back in Round 2 or 3 and hope he gets back to his 2022 performance not having to run through the garbage and waste energy.
Cooper Rush might be brought back again on a 1yr deal.

Biadasz will be let go, Gallup too. Needs to be done to free cap space

Lewis i think they bring back on a cheap deal
Hankins will be brought back on a 1yr deal since hes the only 1 Tech that can play on the Cowboys
I think they will try to bring Armstrong back, maybe even Fowler on a 1yr deal

Kearse will be let go, Gallimore too
we need to draft a real center who can actually pull and run block. also fowler is awful and gets pushed around by even mediocre olineman. we can get another mid round rookie on a cheap contract instead of paying more then two million for lewis. tyron smith is still a very solid tackle i bet if the cowboys release him he will start for over half the teams in the nfl.
