At least now we know why they haven't been using Luepke in the red zone

Yeah, like a guy that's had less than 5 touches all season l
We just hope that the coaches see this and I hope this was a launching game for a playoff type formations using the full back a lot more than we have we need it we definitely know we need it I just hope this doesn't discourage them from using him... I wanna see them increase his load every game Detroit Washington get him ready for the hits and handling the football for playoff time if that's my opinion but that fumble wouldn't should not discourage us from using him more needs a lot more formations where he's in an eye formation traditional lineups etcetera etcetera..
Agree
Takes some carries off of Pollard & Dowdle as we head into playoffs. Carries that can really put wear & tear on prime backs
I wonder if MM isn’t considering that.
Don’t need to get into playoffs without Pollard

Tony Romo threw a pick his 1st NFL pass. I don't care about the fumble because it was an exchange issue, not that he coughed up the ball. MM should've gave Hunter the ball the next series. I was more concerned about the missed pass block on Duke Riley.

I'm not sure what would possess the OC (the HC no less) to call a play like that.

Don't overthink it. Don't get cute.

A lot of us, myself included, have been calling for them to use the big guy on the goal line.

I suppose you could put some of the blame for that fumbled exchange on Dak but Dak has handed off probably about 10,000 times since he came into the league and only on THIS one did the back manage not to take the ball. I put most of the blame for that on the rook. He didn't clamp down when the ball hit his chest plate and basically left his arms separated. If it's not a read play as a back you are taught to TAKE the ball from the QB as soon as he puts it into your arms. That way it doesn't go bouncing around in the backfield. In my honest opinion I think the kid just froze in the moment. He was asked to do something significant in a meaningful juncture in the game and I think it got to him. Not the end of the world and I'm sure it will never happen again as long as he's in the league.. but that one hurt. The Cowboys should have had TDs on their first two drives and been up 14-3 after CeeDee's score. Probably would have been a very different game if that happens.

Don't think Luepke froze. Diving w/o the ball indicates he *thought* he was only supposed to receive a play fake.

But most likely that *thought* was still Luepke's mistake.

I was also calling for Luepke to get the ball more often, and was thrilled that get got carries and snaps on that first drive. Then the fumble. Sad.

In no way am I advocating not continuing to use the kid in these situations. I just wish they had been doing so all along so that he would not be so green in such a high leverage moment. Going forward I expect him to be fine. I'm just made about the loss .. like most of us.

Some fans don't have a clue. Using Luepke as a ball carrier actually works. He looks like he will be a solid player for the Cowboys.
He's only a solid player if he can keep track of what the play call is. The most likely cause of the missed handoff was just him thinking he was only to receive a play fake and not the ball.

There's not a moment in that play that looks like an oops for Luepke. It's looks like a play fake on *Luepke's* part from start to finish.

I wanted more of Luepke. But if he couldn't remember the play, he's a problem. If they think that's *characteristic* for him, they should move on. You can't fix stupid.

It's on the coach to know the capabilities of his players.

It's on the player to have the capability to remember the play.

Looks like a failure of *both* in this instance.

He could become the Cowboys version of the tush push.

Yup he whiffed....attacked him too hard in the hole, wasn’t able to adjust to Riley’s side jump.
He has to learn from Zeke...Zeke let the blitzed momentum take him right to zeke

Pollard showed on the previous play why they tried Lupke at the goal line. Pollard absolutely should've scored.

Yeah no matter how many times I watch that play I can't for the life of me figure out why Pollard cut back in. Footrace to the pylon and he scores easily. Even if the guy catches him you put the ball in the outside hand and reach over the plane while being tackled. The whole thing looked weird.. like he completely forgot how to tote the rock for a second. I'm 63 years old and I think I could have scored on that play with the blocking he got. He had one man to beat for one stinkin yard. No excuse for not scoring there. Zeke probably scores standing up with the DB on his back there. Then again Zeke had a similar play against Tampa in the 2021 opener where he couldn't make up his mind and got tackled. Only in Zeke's case there was a blocker there and he kind of waited to see which way the blocker (I think it was Jarwin) was going to take the guy and by the time he realized that the blocker had whiffed it was too late.

That's one this I hate about the cowboys getting too cute in big moments. But we out ourselves in this situation. Not getting a hammer back in the off-season and relying too much in Tony Pollard thinking he was the next great back when he is what he is. A decent back up/change if pace back. I still can't believe he didn't lower his shoulder and get the TD. You would of thought he was a rookie. I hope we let TP go in FA. He is replaceable.

Giving the benifit of the doubt on that one and putting a lot of blame on MM. he wanted his big FB. But not using him. He had 3 carry’s before this game. One carry was a TD from the 4.

I didn’t get to see much of the game but I heard he got some important short yardage carry’s before that. He honestly ran that play like he was a decoy. Dak put it in his hands and it fell right out. Was he supposed to get it and could not feel the ball or what. If he has that ball it’s 6.. was a strange play. Just another screw up by this team at a critical time. Like the missed punt block the week before. How does he miss that block but yet get the penalty..
