At least now we know why they haven't been using Luepke in the red zone

Still doesn't explain why a QB sneak wasn't the call. 3x if necessary.
Because a QB sneak isn't the answer. Running the ball in w/ your power back is a much better option.

Hey, a rook missed the audible. Mark it down to the coaches not using him enough up to this point.

I'm thinking maybe he hadn't been getting as much playing time because he was having trouble w/ the playbook, particularly audibles.

Was a statement late in preseason that Luepke had a leg up ....because of his quick ability to absorb the playbook

Too much focus on that one play......Pollard should’ve rammed it in the play before, Dak could learn to throw vrs a zone, D should’ve had a sack fest vrs a O.Line with one starter going

The amount of focus seems peculiar

Dude, I'm in my 50s. I don't need this. I wanted to kill someone on that fumble. My blood pressure was spiking. That one angle where you saw Dak give this rhino the ball and he ran through it made me want to vomit. Are you kidding me? How do you not grab the ball? WoW!!
Like I said.. I think the rook missed the call. As much should go to the coaches as him for his not being ready in the moment... but make no mistake about it.. He was not ready in that moment and it cost our team dearly. But as I also said, I don't think it happens again in his career.

Agree.

And he was not ready due to a very peculiar lack of usage. 4 carries on the season coming into this game. There is zero excuse for that.

Yeah with as many blowout wins as this team has had there is really no excuse for not getting the kid some carries late. He should have played the entire 4th quarter of some of those games. To wait until a huge late season game on the road against a high caliber opponent to dust him off was really inexcusable. I can tell you from personal experience that until you see game speed and a lot of it the whole thing moves 1000 mph before you. Then once it does slow down it's like everything happens in slow motion. You're playing the same game, running the same plays but it all seems orders of magnitude easier. You can't simulate it in practice no matter how hard you try. There is just something different about the game.. Always has been, always will be.

A lot of us, myself included, have been calling for them to use the big guy on the goal line.

I suppose you could put some of the blame for that fumbled exchange on Dak but Dak has handed off probably about 10,000 times since he came into the league and only on THIS one did the back manage not to take the ball. I put most of the blame for that on the rook. He didn't clamp down when the ball hit his chest plate and basically left his arms separated. If it's not a read play as a back you are taught to TAKE the ball from the QB as soon as he puts it into your arms. That way it doesn't go bouncing around in the backfield. In my honest opinion I think the kid just froze in the moment. He was asked to do something significant in a meaningful juncture in the game and I think it got to him. Not the end of the world and I'm sure it will never happen again as long as he's in the league.. but that one hurt. The Cowboys should have had TDs on their first two drives and been up 14-3 after CeeDee's score. Probably would have been a very different game if that happens.
No doubt he choked. Either he learns quickly from it or he can start selling insurance.

If.MM cut him the next day I would applaud the message to the team.

Nah you can't cut the kid for one screwup even one as monumental as that one. What I didn't like was that he was immediately re-inserted on the next series. To me THAT sends the absolute wrong message. Yes you put him back in the game at some point, but you don't reward such a huge gaffe with more playing time.

The dude had 312 combined rushes and receptions in college. He only fumbled it twice.
I agree Mcsports, No matter who the player was that fumbled, all the arm chair coaches would've been second guessing them as well. Had it been Pollard or Dowdle the critics still would've been all over MM, Dowdle, or Pollard's case as well. When people are looking for a scapegoat they're going to find one regardless.
I liked MM's play choice, and Luepke crossed the goal line. If not for the fumble, it would've been a TD. People are acting like fumbles have never happened at the goal line before. Sure we hate to see it happen, but hey, stuff happens. That's the NFL.

I think it was the call. Looked like an RPO, but Dak was going to hand off, and Luepke thought Dak was going to pull it and run.

Hard to say for sure. But that's what I thought.....

Luepke can help this team, and it's unfortunate he hadn't gotten more reps before Sunday.

I'm glad they put him right back in after the fumble.

You don't give up on a guy after one botched handoff exchange. By the draconian metrics some apply here, Brock Purdy would be looking for a job this morning.
