At this point what should our draft strategy be?

What message? That QB should be ready to ride the pine for several years?
no.
its about building depth at one of the most important positions on the team.
and the message is for the one in front of them.
that there is somebody behind you who wants your job.
as coach landry said....that sometimes is the best motivator.
its why at one point his qb room had don meredith...craig morton...roger staubach.
or when we had both calvin hill and duane thomas.
i've never understood why our current gm would rather protect his qb's in regards to competition than build quality depth.

yeah because like you and others are saying dak may not play a full season anymore, so makes sense to get one earlier in the draft if possible, and not bank on the UDFA guys that we value so heavily lol

to avoid a QB controversy is all I could see! We have a starting QB, damn it if we have someone that can actually play the position behind him. He doesn't want that QB in practice/pre season to show any signs of being good, because fans will call for that backup every time our starting qb makes mistakes

YES, a sound strategy ,speed at wide receiver would also help.
Not trying to be funny, but QB1 threw a lot of short passes and seemed unwilling to throw deep if recall correctly, although Turp caught a couple. Would it be fruitful to add a speedy WR with how the QB is playing?

it really would or even a #2 #1 type WR that had some speed to his game, throwing deep or putting the fear into a defense isn't something we love doing

Exactly I love this idea draft a QB in the early rounds send a message
Create some competition at the QB position for the first time in a very long time. The position has been overlooked since Aikman retired.

Build a team that can overcome poor QB play. Fix the run game on both sides of the ball with drafting a NT n DT, and drafting a good RB or two.
you'd think fans would realize this instead of whining but hey.

I understand where you are coming from , but if Dallas had a burner to take the top off of the defense .It would help a lot , Cee Dee would get more one on one coverage and the running game should improve .The trenches on both sides of the ball needs to be infused with talent as well. This draft needs speed at RB WR , on offense .

Ok so, are you talking about a dynamic WR w/ speed (premium draft pick) or is a speed WR like Darius Slayton, a low cost UFA, good enough for that role?

How about an early draft pick
plus adding a deep threat like Slayton via FA who would be fairly cheap?

Good post , how ever the draft falls will decide who is drafted, but Dallas needs some serious jets to get separation in the passing game.I feel a high pick coming meaning 1st round will be one of these 3 positions DT WR RB.The pick needs to be a starter, an impact player.

No QB in first or even first 3 rounds.
Dak is signed and must be paid, so you HAVE to now build the team around him.
Must get, WR, RB, and DT help. It freaking sucks that they keep giving away 4th round picks for no return !!!
Luckily we have lots of depth picks in rounds 5 - 7 to grab rotational pieces.
They don't do free agency apart from cheap players so no impact there.
This draft has to help the QB whether we like it or not.
I wanted the Joneses as humiliated as possible, unfortunately this last run of games now reduces that and drops us down the draft, so again, middle of the draft picks = less impact players, more stupid Jerryisums.
Unless they build around the QB and bring in different coaches, it will be more of the same - unfortunately.

For the humpteenth time, you can put 21 all pros around Dak and still not go to a SB. Draft QB (s) every year until we hit on one. Anything else is doing exactly the same as you mention above.

Too late for that, he is signed and has huge garuanteed money and years.
You have to build around the QB, it's the only way !!!

You can not put a team around Dak and win a SB.
With Jerry paying him, you have no choice. If you get rid of him they are paying huge money which would cripple the team.
Only option is to build around him till garuanteed money comes down and they can take the hit.
Right now, they cannot.
