At this point what should our draft strategy be?

For the humpteenth time, you can put 21 all pros around Dak and still not go to a SB. Draft QB (s) every year until we hit on one. Anything else is doing exactly the same as you mention above.
Sometimes I think you have to take a chance , and draft QB for the future .I know that building around Prescott is a sound strategy ,build a running game and shore up the defense. But chances must be taken once in a blue moon.

Dak will always choke no matter how much talent you put around him. Has anyone payed attention to the last 9 years. I’ve ask this many times and no one can answer. How many games has Dak come back to win when being down 10+ points at anytime in his career?

With Jerry paying him, you have no choice. If you get rid of him they are paying huge money which would cripple the team.
Only option is to build around him till garuanteed money comes down and they can take the hit.
Right now, they cannot.
So under your theory, the next 4 years are going to be like the last 28?

Not if they actually build around him, no.
If they somehow someway made Dak a June 1st. Cut next year - it's a $92 million dollar cap hit. So, see what I mean they have to build around him. They have no other choice !
You can hate it all you like, but that's the cold hard truth...

Same as it always has been. Trade back and take BPA.

Same as it was, is now, and will be.

This isn't rocket science stuff.
If you have a Derrick Harmon, Mykel Williams or James Pearce you dont trade down. And more likely than not you will have one of them

100% agree…now if the board is wiped I’m all in on trading down and getting an extra 3rd.

Allows you to probably add another player that can help next year.

One thing the annual "trade down" crew doesnt realize is that trading is very much a gamble. You are going to a lower tier group of prospects with a higher bust rate for extra lower picks. I think alot of the people that parrot trading down ignore the risks

If Dallas was to surprise us and take a QB in the first round, what would you think about Cam Ward .Miami , I am watching him play as we speak ,kid looks good maybe it is time.
Never saw him play but I plan on watching these players in the off season to see what they're about

I can get with trading down/moving back and gathering extra picks, ..if there is Not a Player A" available at the time we select.

If there are no players worthy of our draft pick in that round, then don't panic and force a selection of a player otherwise.

Or course that's up for debate in the matter we ignored the RB position in last year's draft.

I'll always believe in Best Player Available vs Pure Need.

For instance, several mock drafts had us pegged in the 2020 Draft Class, to chose LSU DE K'Lavon Chaisson , simply because our defense was porous
and our DL was perceived as our greatest defensive weakness.

Need over Best Player Available ?

Yet in that same draft class, Sooners WR Ceedee Lamb was held in very high regard by McClay draft board
- even thought we already had WRs Amari Cooper (just re-signed) & upcoming Michael Gallup on the roster.
Did we " reach" for need ? (DE) ... or did we take the Best Available Player on our draft board ?

The Rest is history .... Lamb is a clear-cut Elite WR in the NFL,.. i dunno if Chaisson is even on an NFL roster today.

The entire draft is nothing but a gamble. It's about trying to gather as much talent as possible. More than likely there will be a pool of 2-3 players the Cowboys like when they are on the clock. Getting players like Golston and Beebe as a bonus for trading down is a good thing.

Generally, I would agree but if Grant is there…..run to the podium!

They literally just got a WR with their 4th round pick. One of the positions you said you wanted.
They got a flame out WR, who has not shown any glimpse of his draft position. Now on his second team and is yet to ANYTHING here either.
Now, with the 2 years he has left. I hope he will get it, but I'm not holding my breath, and that pick - like last years 4th could have been used for an ascending player.
Color me unimpressed.

He wasn't supposed to impress or come into Dallas and look like The Playmaker. He hasn't shown a glimpse because he hasn't had a chance and got thrown into a huge mess. Wonky offense with a backup QB that has to fight like heck to even score.

Jerry had a chance to get a WR with a 2nd round grade by using a 4th round pick and on a rookie deal that can hopefully replace Cooks NEXT year. At least give him an off season and training camp and give him a chance.

Can he play in this league? I have no idea. But I do know he deserves a chance and all the Cowboy fans who are card carrying members of the instant gratification society aren't giving him one.

I'm gonna stop replying because I think we just see this very differently.
I do believe the player is in a no win situation thru no fault of his making, but I'm not giving Jerry any pass at all. It's another Trey Lance trade - till seen otherwise.
If he plays well next season - I'll own it.

Mingo is on par with the likes of Tolbert and Brooks…it was a horrific trade and the only thing dumber than trading for him would be Jerry expecting him to plug into the rotation next year and be any different than he has been.
