At what point will people stop overrating the "talent" on this team?

we were winning, not many people pointed out the warts. When we lose, all of the sudden everybody can see them.

Not that I'm necessarily disagreeing with the premise of this thread because I do believe most of those players are overrated ( forgot FLO and Hamlin ), but the truth is that this players were the same guys who helped us win the division and a playoff game for the first time in 13 years.

Alot of Cowboys' fans need to learn how to enjoy success when it comes around, and what the team accomplished this year IS success ( I don't care what the critics say ).

Are changes needed ? Certainly. Doug Free needs to be in the starting line up next year. Flo needs to retire. We need to find a new LG and Kozier either relegated to back up duty or released outright. This coaching staff, and I mean every single member from the HC to position coaches, HAVE TO learn how to develop AND play younger players ( if they make mistakes, that's part of the process ) so when Columbo is getting his butt kicked in a game, he could be replace with a back up without missing much, the way Free replaced him when he was injured. I have a feeling they were going to replace Columbo anyways but when FLO went down and Free had to take his place, they didn't have any other choice and THAT is their fault. We need to start developing a C to put Gurode on notice and for depth purposes.

Ken Hamlin needs to be waived. All he's become is a dirty player because he can't play anymore. Marion Barber also needs to be gone. A million thank yous to him for his contributions and his contract reflects that, but it's time to move on. Every single snap he's on the field, is a snap taken away from Tashard Choice or Felix Jones.

There has to be some serious discussion as to wether T-New should be brought back. At the very least, that contract needs to be reworked because there's no way he's worth 10 million dollars a year and if he thinks he's going to get ANYTHING close to that in the open market, he's dreaming.

We need to bring in at least 1 more ILB and make sure Jason Williams gets ALOT of reps during mini camps, training camp, and pre-season. We HAVE TO find out if he can play because Brady James need to be put on notice that he needs to step up his play. Keith is a inspirational leader but unfortunately his best days are behind him. It's time to start replacing him more often on the field. The same goes with Victor Butler, Brandon Williams, and Michael Hamlin. They need to see the field more often even if it's just as a safeguard to D.Ware or Spencer' injury. Hamlin needs to be competing for a starting spot next year.

Having said all that, this was still an enjoyable year. The team made progress, it's still young in most positions, and now they know what it takes to win. Make no mistake about it, as of right now, that schedule is murder so it won't be an easy road, but that's ok, it's exactly what this team needs. They need to be challanged every week so they don't let their guards down and if some chance they get to the playoffs again, they'd be more prepared.

I'm not sure you can make the claim that this team's talent is overrated.

The only unit that is overrated and has been for a while is the Offensive Line.

Ron Jaworski got completely ripped last week when he said this line was average and the Tony Romo saved them during all the Eagles Games.

I don't think Marc Columbo was 100% and Doug Free should have been the starter once he proved himself when Columbo went down.

The talent is there. Gurode isn't overrated. He was looking under at legs at Romo when the guy jumped off. Romo would have had to call for the snap.

Not the team's collective talent, but certain players' talents are overrated.

True, but you can probably say that about just about every team.

Yeah, Keith did a lot for this team, but it's a shame we need a mediocre at best linebacker to be a coach/mascot on the field to drive this team.

So i guess you are taking on the role of Brookings hater on the zone.

So please help me understand how you base your expertise of Brookings play as a LB'er. Maybe you have a better understanding of the LBer position in Wade's 3-4 defense than the coaches do. But i would be very interested in your brilliant insight into this scheme and what Brookings does and did so poorly that makes him your whipping boy and a forum.

Thanks

our o line is incredibly overrated. barber... idk about being overrated, he's very talented, he just doesn't have it right now. keith brooking has been an excellent contribution to this team. actually the best contribution to this team, he brought stabilizing leadership to this locker room which was desperately needed.

I'd still draft a left tackle in the 1st round to hedge my bets.

Agreed, and draft an OG while we're at it.

But it doesn't mean they'll be ready to play immediately.

I think we go to battle next year with what we have ... depending on how Brewster turns out.

:hammer:

Haven't used the hammer in a long time, but this post is spot on. Monster Heel, DaBoys4Life and McCordsvilleCowboy were damn near invisible for 4 weeks, now here comes one of them with this negative crap disguised as reality. Every team in the league is overrated at certain positions and underrated in others. The Cowboys just completed a 12-6 campaign in which they won the NFC East and a playoff game for the first time in 13 years. We wanted them to go further. They could've gone further, but they failed. I'm not happy about that, but I'm level headed enough to accept it and look forward to the future, which is brighter than it has been in some time. If we need to upgrade in some areas, fine. What team doesn't?

Oh brother here comes that stupid debate again.

As for your list...I agree on everyone but Marc and Brooking. I think Brooking was very good for us this year, and in more than just the vocal area. I wish he was younger, for sure, but he's a darn solid player who did very well this year.

Marc I believe, and it could turn out wrong, simply rushed back for the playoffs and really wasn't ready. He shouldn't have played and thats on him and this staff for allowing it.

If Flo hadn't went down yesterday I really do believe Free would have been playing RT and the O-Line would have played better at that point.

That injury compounded the problem cause it forced us to keep Marc on the field and to put Free at a position I doubt he's spent a whole ton of time at lately.

Andre Gurode - Pro Bowl center than can't even catch the opposing team offsides and routinely lets guys come free in a manner that resembles unabated to the QB.

Marion Barber - What is this guy good at aside from celebrating every mundane play and killing momentum? He was a revelation when he began to take snaps from Julius Jones, but that ship has sailed.

Marc Columbo - He can't block an above average DE, but he sure is tough!

Terence Newman - When he isn't in the training room, he's getting toasted or talking himself up in an interview.

Keith Brooking - Did he play in a game after week 8? Is he a linebacker or a mascot?
Can't disagree with much on the list, altough I think you're a little tough on Brooking.

I would add Bradie James to the list.

You know what, dude? Enough with that ****!

Splitting the board with that idiotic diatribe is what started making this place a miserable place to even visit.

If your only interest is to "divide" then take your act somewhere else. I'm certain that I'm not the only one around here who feels this way (among both the "realists" and the "sunshine crew").

We're all pissed. We're all disappointed. We're all bummed out. The last thing we ALL need is someone spouting the "I told ya so(s)" combined with a "who's with me" label.

This is coming from one of the "realists".

Can it. The act is old.

If you've got a beef (and all of us do), fine. Post about it. Don't try dividing the board with horse**** labels.

Talent?

What do you use to rate "talent" ?

Should we listen to the media? Are we looking at this team as homers and overrating this talent? Are we just a pessimistic bunch and go the extreme when this team loses?

IMHO...I think we have a very solid base......The Vikings have a very good team and exposed us in some areas. It was one game.....Im willing to bet if these 2 teams met 10 times....Dallas would win at least 5......yesterday just wasnt our day. The OL struggled all day...it was their worst performance all year.......IMHO....I think we were outcoached yesterday....I think the Vikings assistants did a better job in game planning

That being said....we do have to look in the mirror.....what needs to improve...our inside LB's need improvement IMHO and I sure would like to upgrade our safeties......but the biggest issue always has been the OL play....we struggled all year to gain a tough one yard ....and Romo did make our OL pass protection look better then it was.

But what to do? Is Davis overrated? Gurode? Koseir? .....we know Adams is long in the tooth.....and Columbo is solid but not great....

I think the draft will be focused on those positions......should be interesting...

Talk about overreaction. All of those players were significant contributors to this team winning the NFC East and the Wildcard playoff game.

You mean like all of us posters that where beat down by saying Barber was not a top 10 back and should never get a deal in the 40 million range. How we where called morons because we though he was just a good back than ran hard and was to slow to be an every down back.

Gurode I like but he has issue the entire oline does and needs a complete over haul in a year where we are going to be hard press to sign any FA because of the rules coming out in the uncapped year.

I still think the secondary could be upgraded in 3 out of 4 positions. Maybe Mike Hamlin is an upgrade next year.
