Top 5 goats
Andre Gurode - Pro Bowl center than can't even catch the opposing team offsides and routinely lets guys come free in a manner that resembles unabated to the QB.
Marion Barber - What is this guy good at aside from celebrating every mundane play and killing momentum? He was a revelation when he began to take snaps from Julius Jones, but that ship has sailed.
Marc Columbo - He can't block an above average DE, but he sure is tough!
Terence Newman - When he isn't in the training room, he's getting toasted or talking himself up in an interview.
Keith Brooking - Did he play in a game after week 8? Is he a linebacker or a mascot?
Oddly enough your top five goats aren't the guys being rated high in terms of talent. That would be our QB, TE, #1 WR (Austin) and our 2 non-starting backs; Spencer, Ware, Ratliff and Jenkins. Rightfully so, they've all played well this year.
Your list makes doesn't correlate with your complaint..
Brookings is never called a top flight LB'er, he's being hailed for his emotion and leadership.
No one really says much about Gurode, he normally is reliable and doesn't need to be called out like someone is calling him the Jerry Rice of centers. No one is.
No one has been over rating Newman either. For the most part it's almost unanimous that he's been surpassed by Jenkins and some are saying even worse.
And definitely not Barber. The best he gets is, 'he was fine before his quad'. No one is over rating that guy at all.
Colombo did fine this year, and for the most part really only was celebrated for shoving Brandon Jacobs.
They were part of getting the team as far as it did and yesterday they flopped. The absence of an all out assault on their character isn't over rating them. They're fine. The real goats have been the kickers, and Garrett on occasion.
