4th and 5 smh why throw to Zeke running an out route on the short side of the field. Vikings where in man coverage if im not mistaken and Amari was open underneath on a slant route. Even if Dak doesn't audible out of that play it was the right call just a bad decision on that play. I blame the coaches for a lot but that wasn't one of them it was simply bad execution on that down. Dak played a hell of a game. Does anyone know how to prevent these slow starts? They are killing us.

Why even have Zeke on the field in a pure passing situation on a short field?

He only makes sense split out if you can isolate him on LBs *in to defend against the run* who he can run by on a deep pass. If the defense has their coverage package in anyway, Zeke is just a short, fat WR who can't run routes trying to get open against coverage specialists.

Any playcall can be cancelled with an audible.

it can, but you're assuming rationale protocol in Jerry World - that's an assumption we can't make ... under the circumstances

it's like Austin not returning the kick, it's hard to believe it was a player's on field decision

and that's the problem - it should have been

Most of you know my qualms with Dak Prescott and the prospect of paying him like a top-five quarterback. Forget that for now. Last night was not about that at all.

This isn't a Dak criticism post. I think the guy played really, really well last night. In fact, that's the best game I've ever seen him play by a mile. After a rocky start with an almost pick-six, he got himself together and played a tremendous game. Very, very good to see.

However, far too much focus is being placed on the play-calling at the end. Namely, the two run calls.

Any playcall can be cancelled with an audible. They are all the time. They are DESIGNED to be changed at the line of scrimmage based on looks or whatever.

If you remember, Tony Romo almost never ran the play that was sent in. Brady, Brees, Rodgers, etc, etc, etc....they audible more than they don't.

So it's dumb to blame last night on playcalling. It's lazy and mindless thinking. This team moves the ball just fine so far with Dak at the helm.

The second down run made sense with only two yards to gain and a need to drain the clock. The second run was silly against that front. You don't run a toss play with the defense lined up out wide like that. Disaster.

And then, was the 4th down play really designed to go to Zeke? Dak was NOT required to throw it there. That is not coaching. That's a quarterback decision. I'm looking for Cooper there, and if he's doubled or tripled, the big tight ends should have advantages.

Last night was a great game. The Cowboys defense and interior offensive line play was the biggest problem, but there were others. Many others. And Dak was part of that late blunder, too.

I have a hard time blaming playcalling when you've got the ball at the 9 yard line going in for a game winning touchdown in a should-be 31-28 victory.

The game was there to be won. Dak played great, but I think he could have handled that sequence much better. It's lazy thinking to blame Kellen Moore, and even more so to blame Jason Garrett. Celebrate Dak last night, as he deserves, but don't absolve him entirely. He shared in this loss, too.

This fan base obsesses over coaching and playcalling in excess because the majority of it can't dissect what it's watching. Same with the click-baiting, non-thinking media.

The 2nd and 3rd down runs went against everything that was working. Dak was carving up that defense all night while Zeke was getting stuffed. He had run 18 times to that point for less than 2.5 per carry. Why in the world would you go against the whole flow of the game in that critical moment? That IS play calling. The 4th down incompletion with our backs against the wall should have never happened. It never should have got to that point. Play calling matters and last night only emphasized the point.

It has gotten so ridicules here with the Dak-Employees that they care more about how Dak played then the fact that yesterday's loss will cost us the playoffs.

P.S. When we lose its everyone's fault except Dak's.....

P.P.S. when we win, it's everyone, including Dak's fault.

Would be nice to beat a team with a winning record?
So far our only win was Philly which started with 2 gift TO on Philly's first 2 possesions.

Does anyone not remember about 10 years ago when Ed reed and ray Lewis shut down cowboys stadium? After the game talking about garrets offense and how it was predictable.

what has changed in 10 years? Different play callers but still garrets offense

Yes, audibles are a thing. That isn't the problem. The problem is them even sending in a run play as the initial play. Running the ball at that point shouldn't have even been a thought after the way Zeke and the line had been blown up the entire game. Your QB just marched you down the field through the air, again, and is playing out of his mind, and you call 2 straight run plays?? Sorry, but there is no excusing that and this is just trying to pass the buck to Dak for not correcting their stupidity.

Yeah. Why should we expect the coaches to call plays that will actually work?
Because the coaches can't predict what the defense is going to do. Football 101 tells us that the coaches should prepare the QB to have an option to change the play based on the defensive alignment. It happens all the time. It is standard operating procedure.

How can you not know this?

ah so now its like it used to be when tony was the qb the head coach and his kindergarten staff is going to blame a qb that kept them in the game this idiot did tony the same dam way the staff butchered that at the end of the game and now Stephen and jerry are defending that stupidity makes them look the same way people have eyes to see and ears to hear for a reason

I agree that it's not ALL about the play calling on the plays you're talking about.

BUT!!!! If you go for a really long FG on 4th and miss instead of punting for field position that's on the garbage play calling. I would understand if it were the end of the game. Not the 1st quarter. Just dumb.

Agreed. It's like when we were running the ball at will in the past and they abandoned it to miss on passing plays. Pure stupid.

I do know this.

The running plays weren’t working all game long. All game long they were getting stuffed. How do you not know this? The coaches called running plays when they needed yards the most anyway, despite them not working all game.

that is a time in the game where the coaches should go into their playbook and call a play that has a high probability of working. Not call plays that literally haven’t worked all game long.

How about you spend more focus on watching the games and actually seeing what’s going on.

Also Garrett is being misleading saying that he gave Dak the option to throw the ball or that the play was a RPO. Because some film shows that it was a run play all of the way. Garrett can't even be honest and admit to his mistake. And is trying to deflect the blame for the bad play calling decision.

Speaking of Dak-Employees, last week it was Booger McFarland taking away credits fro Gallups incredible effort TD by stating, " That was all Dak", this week Chris Colligsworth makes up this story that Dakota bought a house for his mother from his Cowboys endorsement money.......uh she died in 2013. https://247sports.com/Article/Dak-P...-NBC-Sports-apology-comment-mother-138401220/

The point is that for some strange reason we are seeing the media and other not only prop up Dakota but outright fabricating stories about him to boost themselves in the eyes of the viewers. " "Look how much Collingsworth cares about Rayne Dakota as the man, not just the player" Condescending and transparent at best

This has nothing to do with Dak, not a bash on him, only recognizing the levels some will stoop to in creating the Legend. In the media and obviously in this forum. Let his performance and his end of season stats do his talking.

ok remove the last 2 plays on that series from the equation

you still have very, very poor coaching decisions throughout the game

1. Telling Tavon to fair catch the punt
2. Going for a low % FG on the 1st possession instead of giving the vikes a very long field

and many more

Saying that coaches can't predict what the defenses is going to do, yet somehow opposing players and coaches time and time again have come out and said how predictable the Cowboys play calling and plays were. So this coaching staff can't be let off of the hook by putting the blame on Dak for not changing the play.
