Jerry Jones lays down the law!!!

By dcfanatic, October 30, 2009 1:15 pm

Here's the Cowboys 'real' head coach letting you fans know he has decided Kevin Ogletree needs to start playing and so that is exactly what will happen this Sunday.

I think that's what he said.

And Oh yeah. He makes all the decisions. All of them! He will take into consideration what the 'football coaches' say but when it really comes down to it he will be deciding who plays on Sundays.

And we wonder why it's been thirteen years...

Jerry Jones on The Fan

It's called being the boss and letting everyone know it.

And I gotta say. I knew this was how things were being done at Valley Ranch, but to hear him being so vocal about it and basically telling the fans that this is how it is and that he could care less if we like it or not kind of made me feel sorry for Wade Phillips.

I have killed Wade on many occasions.

I think from now on I may not do that as much.

Jerry said the final say is on the GM, and if not the GM, the owner, but in our case, it's the same guy. Jerry goes on to say it has been this way for 20 years, even when Parcells was here.

I listened to the same clip not exactly how you are putting it.

Most of this came from the hosts asking him about demoting Roy Williams. Basically, Jerry was saying even if the coach wanted to demote him, Jerry could overrule him.

Listening right now also.

I hate to even post this because I know where it will go, but I saw on another board that in the weekly Ross Tucker piece on SI.com that when he was here (2002, IIRC), he vividly remembered a young OLman getting benched for poor play... And then saw one of Jerry's aides go have a word with Campo, who then had a word with the OL coach... And then the player was put back in the game.

Ugh. That's sickening. :(

I'm surprised no one has posted that yet.

I think he is just saying that there is an order of authority. He is responsible for every decision the coach makes because he hired him. He is responsible for the players being removed from the team (contracts, cuts) and also he has say on when they start.

That sounds about right to me.

With Rossum hurt it was pretty much a given that Ogletree would be active for STs.

This isn't even remotely the first time he's said the buck stops with him.

Jerry did sound a bit defensive, and said in his defense, anyone that runs something, and puts out contracts like the one he gave Ware, he darn sure will have final say into what happens.

When asked about our 13 year playoff win drought, he mentioned our previous 3 Superbowls of the 90's and he also mentioned that bringing in BP didn't get us a Superbowl either.

Lets look at the facts - we know that Jerry isn't a dictator who doesnt listen to his coaches for decision making. Otherwise we wont have Carpenter or Brooking. But at the same time if he never made decisions independantly we would never have TO or Parcells.

I think there is a decision making process and he has the final say in it.

Why? Before we signed Rossum we didn't see Ogletre.

I thought we were going to see one of the two guys we drafted to play special teams - play special teams.

Williams or Hamlin.

Just finished listening... That was weird. I wonder what got Jerry in such a bad mood today. Because the last couple of weeks, they have hammered him with tough questions, and he handled it with incredible humor. Today they didn't attack him at all, and he starts with this huge attitude. He must've come into the interview angry about something.

Ugh. This is going to be the subject of many columns, articles, and TV pieces this week. Ugh.

No one throws a wet blanket over the positive energy generated by a Cowboys winning streak quite like Jerry.:D

Yeah. And Wade says don't cut Ellis because I know what he can do.

And Jerry says tough.

I drafted Spencer and it's his turn.

Right?

Because he is the GM.

I doubt Jerry is making this decision all by himself. Im sure he is gathering information from everyone and then makes a decision.
