I have a friend who saw Haley in a bar at Radford University one night. He said Haley was drunk, trying to start fights with everyone and saying extremely crude things to women right in front of their dates. Said he was shocked.
This is probably a reason why Haley hasn't been considered for the Hall of Fame until now. And I doubt he gets in for a while. He might be trying to change, but he's remember by what he did and how he was as a player. Haley can't even get a coaching job at a high school, if I remember the story he told correctly.
It's because of the crude and lude things he's known for. Oh, he was a great player, don't get me wrong. But life isn't just about being good at your profession. At some point, you have to incorporate the laws of civilization and civility in what you do or people won't appreciate your ultimate accomplishments.
Some people want to believe as long as someone leaves it all on the field, that's all that matters. But that's a myopic view of life. What you do
AND your reputation are very important parts of your legacy.
Haley, by his actions, didn't help his.
