You can enjoy another 13 years without a playoff win.

You're right. We need more guys to choke the chicken in front of teammates.

I hear Belichek makes his players do that for 30 minutes after each practice.

Maybe not all of that. :laugh2:

I'd be fine with a Cowboy putting a helmet to somebody's knee or punching them when they're kneeled for sure though.

I don't think the Cowboy defenses of the Haley era were as great at sacking the QB... At least not as great as the late 70's/early 80's defenses or the defenses of the late 60's/early 70's.

Not a true Cowboy? Dude.Cmon.The greatest pass rusher we ever had.

I agree he's a Cowboy for life but Haley wasn't the greatest pass rusher Dallas has ever had... Mr. Martin was and Ware will be eventually.

Thanks for posting dcfanatic, really appreciate it.

Charles Haley is my favorite defensive player of all-time its a shame he hasnt gotten the respect he deserves. Should of been in the Hall of Fame years ago.

I have been in charles' house and I have met his wife, very awesome to me.

I will never say bad about the man.

he is all class all the time in my book.

How long have you been a Cowboys fan? Haley was very good, loved his intentisty and nastiness, but I wouldn't put him above George Andrie, Too Tall Jones, and Harvey Martin. The Cowboys have a long history of outstanding pash rushers. Out of these 4 players I would rate Haley #3.

If stats for sacks had been officially kept by the league when Harvey played, he would currently own the single season sack record. Of course, Deacon Jones would probably own it if they had been kept when he played.

That would be correct.

George Andrie would be second.

I would have to say that Ware is not far from being third on the list.

Needless to say Haley was one heck of a pass-rusher. But the best ever for the Dallas Cowboys?

Not if someone truly knows the history of the Dallas Cowboys.
Great post Michael!

Talk about a thug - Deacon Jones went out of his way to hurt the opposing QB and hammer them upside the head. He also really did hate the opposing QB - he's admitted it in several interviews I've seen.

Speaking of all these great old players, is anyone else watching the Showtime series Full Color Football: The History of the American Football League? It's a mini series that has been on Showtime and it's a really good look at the early years of the AFL/NFL and merger.

I'm guessing you became a fan of the Cowboys in the early 90s.

No, Charles Haley was a better pure pass rusher.

Haley's main responsibility was rushing the passer, yet he never had as many sacks in a single year as Harvey Martin. Harvey played in the "Flex" which was a gap control defense, It required reading then reacting and slowed the pass rush while being very effective against the run game.

Long story short Harvey Martin was never allowed the freedom to just rush the passer and yet still put up numbers just as good as Haley. Charles Haley was a very good and effective pass rusher but he wasn't better than Harvey Martin

I have a friend who saw Haley in a bar at Radford University one night. He said Haley was drunk, trying to start fights with everyone and saying extremely crude things to women right in front of their dates. Said he was shocked.

This is probably a reason why Haley hasn't been considered for the Hall of Fame until now. And I doubt he gets in for a while. He might be trying to change, but he's remember by what he did and how he was as a player. Haley can't even get a coaching job at a high school, if I remember the story he told correctly.

It's because of the crude and lude things he's known for. Oh, he was a great player, don't get me wrong. But life isn't just about being good at your profession. At some point, you have to incorporate the laws of civilization and civility in what you do or people won't appreciate your ultimate accomplishments.

Some people want to believe as long as someone leaves it all on the field, that's all that matters. But that's a myopic view of life. What you do AND your reputation are very important parts of your legacy.

Haley, by his actions, didn't help his.

That would be Harvey Martin.

There is no question that an argument could be made either way. They were BOTH tremendous pass rushers with an attitude. Two of my favorite players of all time.

Charles Haley was a better pass rusher than Too Tall IMO with all due respect.

Haley may not even be in the top five. I could argue either way. Randy White was as good. Jethro Pugh maybe. Too Tall is in there. I'm probably forgetting someone.
