Austin Hooper: I'm not like Jason Witten, where's it me vs other TEs

That's been the scuttlebutt about Witten for a long time here. Not a guy to be giving a hand up to the TEs below him.

and Farve and rogers not helping or liking the next guy behind him, its the backups job to TAKE the job from the starter and not suckle the tite of the starter.. some like helping ie teaching nd others want to concentrate on their own game..

theres no right way, hes not coach or mentor..lots of layers are like this, oly ones exposed are the ones that have sore losers behind them or never made it in te nfl , really not one ..MB did a pretty good job but where is he now..he will be forgotten while Jwitt will have gold jacket.. not many liked TO but To does not need to apologize, he accomplished most f his goals as did Jwitt..

I literally had no idea who Hooper is/was. Young TE who's making his way. Good for him. But why compare himself to Witten at all? Even if it's true that Witten didn't help other TEs on the team, why bother? What was the gain for Hooper? It seems like nothing more that self-promotion. Ill-advised self-promotion. Save that rhetoric for the TE meetings in Cleveland.

It wasn't Witt's job to develop back ups for most of his career but it is very concerning that coaching didn't step up and get those other guys more reps or development.

No shade at Witten but I am not upset he has moved on. As an older vet winding down that mentorship should be expected.
He reportedly chose the Raiders because he was guaranteed playing time.

Marty B even said later in his career that he had misjudged Witten.
Even said that he should've listened when TO told him if he wanted to be a great pro he needed to mimic Witten.

Witten was a great teammate but he was hyper-competitive.
But by all but one or two accounts( the ones that make news as a result) he would help anyone that asked.

It sounds like he was not one to seek out other TEs to teach them....they actually had to ask for his help.

Having said all that, I'm glad he moved on.

That was talk years ago on sports radio. Witten didnt leave TN on the best terms. He left his junior year.

Witten was old school. It was probably a clash of styles. I was the same way. When I was tasked with training guys I gave them very short leashes, my philosophy was if I have to repeat myself more than 3 times you are no longer worth the effort. So some could handle it some couldn't. Those that can't refuse to take accountability and look to point fingers.

Could have been. But heard he had something to do with her and a hotel room. And JG said something about him not wearing a suit to the game. Lol. We got him out of town quick. Now we have no kick returner.

Exactly. HOFer Shannon Sharp said the same thing about himself. He continued to fight for his starting position every season and never gave another player a chance to take it from him.

Helping someone is one thing, but its upon a competing player to take that spot. Some of these guys like Bennett and Hooper can go pound salt
