Just curious whenever the new HC is announced. The pool of assistant coaches will be limited. Not sure I understand the lack of urgency in hiring the new HC.

Certainly Schottenheimer has a few friends around the league that aren’t washed….one would think…

The coordinator and assistant spots are going to follow in line with the HC spot, they aren’t going to be able to attract the better ones.

It’s NOT an attractive situation and if you’re trying to advance your career, this may not be the place…especially if you work on offense.

Perfect time to jump on it. This offense was one of the best in the NFL just last year. We're not that far away. A great position coach would and should jump at being a coordinator.....he'll bring in a guy with the wink, wink that if he becomes a HC, he'll take him as his coordinator

Suppose it depends on the individual. Most position coaches that are eventually hired we will have never heard of, and that’s ok. Most of them fit that profile. Point was I can’t imagine it being an attractive situation to someone with options.

Of course if it’s promotion with a raise it could work, but you’d think the most sought after guys would rather get into a situation that looks more promising.

I don’t at all agree that they were one of the best last year. You mean 2023? Ok, but the OL and QB have both taken some significant steps back since, and that can’t be ignored. The front office gives the likes of Ezekiel Elliott as RB1 and pushes blame your way when you didn’t win.

OL was young, but have 24 season as experience, Dak was not right, zero preseason reps and then injury, we need to draft a RB and hopefully, keep Rico......but, most coaches in the grind, if not all, know....you strike while the fire is hot. You may not ever get another chance.

Be real, the offense looked abysmal against good teams like the Bills, 49ers etc last year... It preyed on trash teams, and then had garbage stats in garbage time against good teams when they were down 4+ possessions. This team isn't going nowhere with Dak under center.

that wasnt a very friendly farewell
where is the love
No love from me, when it comes to quitting. Too many already quit on the next few years....I don't get why they put themselves through hanging around, if it just pisses them off. Sports should be fun, at least I think they should.....but, if this attitude is the way they enjoy it, I guess I just need to back off. I'll try to do better, moving forward.....no promises, but I'll try. But, I will respond if called out.

If complaining about your favorite sports team wasn’t enjoyable, no one would do it. There’s nothing wrong with it. Each fan should express themselves in their own way. None of it is personal. Participation here, and any fan forum, is voluntary.

Position coach contracts are for 2 seasons… then they usually move on. It’s a built in networking system by the league so that new head coach hires have a broad base of people they have worked with to choose from for possible coordinator positions. Basically every position coach who signed 2 years ago is now interviewing to build their resume. The opening to start interviewing those coaches was the 20th I believe. There will be numerous interns and quality control coaches ready to make the jump to position coach, there will also be college coaches wanting to make the jump to build their resumes. In the end there will be more qualified position coaches than positions. Some will have to settle for asst position coach handed to them by friends others will take consultant jobs like Shottenheimer did here 2 seasons ago until they can make the jump back in next season!

In what world was this offense one of the best?

Someone needs to make a list of trash heap coordinators or guys who haven't done the job yet that were once part of the Cowboys organization, that's where Dumb & Dumber will be picking from
