I just really don't get why the pro-Roy crowd is so convinced that he is going to return to his 3rd year form. That was 3 full seasons ago and he was mediocre in 2007, very bad in 2008 (for a #2 WR while in Dallas) and very bad again in 2009 (for a #1 WR, that is).
At some point, you have to stop living on past glory. I just don't see the skills that will make him a great weapon again. He is not particularly fast on the field (maybe on the track he still is), he has minimal quickness, he runs poor routes, he adjusts routes poorly, he cannot catch the ball under tight coverage, he has inconsistent hands and he has alligator arms over the middle. I just don't see how you are going to make a great WR out of this guy and that is what he needs to be to justify the $9M/yr contract. He is surviving because there are large guaranteed costs that we are still paying off. To stay on the team right now he just needs to be one of the top 4 WRs. Once the guaranteed portion of the contract is eaten and he has large yearly salaries his production will need to match his pay or he will be cut.
I think he has one more season here so we can develop Ogletree and hopefully another rookie or UDFA. My hunch is by the second half of the season he will be #4 on the depth chart and riding the pine as Romo will demand someone else go in at the #2 spot. If he becomes a distraction he will be relased. Otherwise, he will be released next offseason.
