Kyle Young is too tall at 6'5", too slow at 5.62/40 yards, but no team seems to have signed him. Is he an improbable prospect?

Signed with the Skins, IIRC...

what about free agent pick up Steve Rissler from Floida?
maybe he m,akes the team as back up center. I think He was a pretty good player in college...

Rissler is as strong at the point of attack as Al Johnson was... which means he gets pushed back into the backfield WAY too often...

That could become a nightmare scenariao, but Commanders.com, from a cursory glance, doen't mention Young, and lists undrafted rookie free agents as

Terry Caulley RB Connecticut Daniel Francis CB LSU Stephon Heyer OL Maryland Justin Hickman DE UCLA Sam Hollenbach QB Maryland Zach Latimer LB Oklahoma Marcus Mason RB Youngstown State Taylor Sele WR Boston College Deyon Williams WR Virginia

Why would it be a nightmare scenario, if the Skins signed a fat, slow offensive lineman??

You seem to be correct about him not signing with the Skins, though... can't find anything that says he does, but I swear I saw his name on their list on some website...

Or maybe senility's settin' in... :D

The Cowboys selected Boston College tackle James Marten in the third round, and then Northern Illinois tackle Doug Free in the fourth. Both players finished their collegiate careers playing tackle, but both have started games at guard. In fact, Free might even be capable of playing backup center if needed.

Don't forget Trey Darilek, from THE University of Texas (at El Paso)...

Yeah, the forgotten man, thanks to the slacker who handles the roster updates at DallasCowboys.com.

I think he has a solid chance of sticking around since he's actually played center and can fill in at either guard spot as well.

I'm sure Proctor, Free and Martin will all get some time at center during training camp and in preseason games.

If the coaches don't feel confident with any of them, then we can sign a center during roster cuts before the start of the season.

My bet would be Proctor. I understand he has been working at being the backup center and it saves a roster spot.

I just worry about not having someone at least experienced in college at playing center. Just doing it in practice and playing in some exhibition games when you have never played that position before and relying on that person to backup your center is asking for big trouble.

It is kinda embarrassing that the Cowboys' official website can't even be bothered to give us a complete, up to date roster...

Even the players listed don't seem to have accurate info; Joe Berger is still listed at 300, maybe 305, but I read an article a few days ago that said he was up to 315 pounds... is it so unreasonable of me to expect the team roster on the team's official website to keep me current as to such minor details as what a player freakin' well WEIGHS??

Not to mention that they're selctive in what they update and what they don't.

It would be one thing if we knew that they were just consistantly behind, but they're not.

Some transactions are updated very quickly, while others aren't at all.

I would expect better from the official team site.

Agreed, which would mean guys like Marten, Free, and possibly McQuistan will be T/G back-ups.

What worries me the most is not the actual skill of playing the position, but the mental part. Who makes the line calls if Gurode goes down? I think exhibition games can get you enough experience for playing the position, working on the snap, etc. But exhibitions don't prepare you for exotic blitz schemes.

If Gurode can handle it, I'm not worried about the other backups handling it.

Berger was a mechanical engineering major w/ a 3.73 GPA. I think he can handle the mental aspect of it. Procter started 47 games at three different positions in college. He probably has a rudimentary understanding of how the offensive line works.
