Backup QB?

David Moore wrote today that we were poised to take Brad Kaaya in 7th, but DET beat us to him. Are we comfortable with Kellen Moore and a street free agent Cooper Rush? Or maybe Osweiler and Sanchez get cut now and become cheap vet options. It's the only position now that I feel less than confident about.

our season is over if dak has a significant injury.
the problem is what happens if moore gets hurt also and we literally could not field a team.
though it would be good to tank if dak is out.

Linehan was the primary reason they drafted Dak. I think Linehan would have drafted him much earlier if he was making the draft decisions.

Linehan loves Kellen Moore. I think Linehan should be given the benefit of the doubt considering that he was smarter than the scouts in regards to Dak.

I'm anxious to see Cooper Rush in the preseason. Reminds me a little of a UDFA Romo in 2003 on tape. Maybe a guy who can stick around the way Romo did.

He's smart enough. He doesn't appear to have the arm Romo did but a big arm is an overvalued thing in the league sometimes.

He had some good college numbers and the scouts say that his final season his completion percentage fell because of an over abundance of drops by his receivers

The backup QB situation is certainly a concern. But most teams in the league are in a similiar position. Dak is strong and has a good O-line protecting him.

Our QB depth is atrocious.

Most teams, if they lose their QB for the season, its over. To me, QB depth means the back up could come in and win a game or 2 whike your starter is out short term. I don't think we even have a guy who could win a single game. Its not good at all.

Kellen Moore is the short term backup QB this year. If a long term need for a backup QB arises, especially if the Cowboys are locked in for the playoffs, look for Romo to come out of retirement.

I have no concerns about backup QB.

I'm fine with Moore as the backup who can run this offense with his knowledge and decisions. We ran this team for many years with only two QBs on the roster, but if we want a third, there will be plenty of vets available in cutdowns.

Pretty sure Jamal Showers will be our 3rd qb behind Moore. Kept on practice squad until we need him.

Showers can't stay on the practice squad this year, can he? I thought there's a two year limit on that. Or, does he get some reprieve based on the position switch somehow?

I keep saying it... Showers and Moore are going to fight it out for #3 in training camp (... not impressed with what I've seen of Rush, fwiw).

Someone else will be #2.

Would love to think Romo is the default option, but it's hard to trust that conclusion.
