Certainly possible both of these guys could be there at 12. If you stick and pick, who do you take?? I keep going back and forth. Downs is probably higher on our board but damn Bain is a beast.

I feel like Bain is a much bigger need, but Downs role in our defense would be huge. I think he'd become the backbone of what we do. He also seems like a much safer choice.

To answer your question, I have no idea what Id do. I imagine our scouts have Downs higher on the board and although they'd struggle for a consensus I think we'd ultimately take Downs.

That's a tough one. I might actually take Bain.

That said, good thought exercise--teams in the top 10 are going to be asking themselves the same thing. Take this other player at a more impactful position or the safety? Maybe there is a chance he makes it to us.

You take a defensive line terror over any other position other than QB, when both are can't miss prospects.

The 1981 Cowboys DL in 1981 created 37 INT's. That is mind boggling. 6'9" Too Tall Jones, 6'7" John Dutton. 6'4" Randy White, 6'5" Harvey Martin. The opposing QB's could not see. That team should have gone to the Super Bowl and they would have won it. Bill Walsh outsmarted Tom Landry on the 49er 's last drive which culminated in The Catch. Joe Montana that day was sacked three times and threw three INT's.

Positional value would break the tie towards Bain for me.

With that being said, our defense could use a smart, talented safety in the worst way. We fielded deep pass defense ever last season, and most of those bombs were hit on assignment busts.

The higher graded player. If they have a similar grade, take the pass rusher, but otherwise, whichever is highest on your board.

They're rookies. There's a good chance that even if one or both turn into very good players, they won't fill our defensive holes in year 1. Most rookies aren't ready for that. You fill your holes by solid drafting over the years, combined with the odd free agent. Terrible drafting has made that impossible.

You think Downs is able to cover someone like Bowers 1-on-1?
No Safety is going to be able to cover a top WR 1 on 1
THAT is what CBs are there for
why you should think that matters indicates a lack of football knowledge

I would prefer Bain buuuut he might not be the greatest fit in the new defense. But Christian Parker should be a smart enough guy to change it to be highly effective. Safe choice is Downs but he does have the knee thing. I feel Downs is a safe choice but long term gamble. I go Bain.

Disagree. We don’t have the perfect nickel player right now, the most important position on D. We have options but none of them are ideal. Give me Downs

Bain

There is no way both would be available at 12 but if they were you could make a trade back with Baltimore and probably get a second. Then draft the one that is left.

Pass rush without Safety protection is meaningless

We have not had a top Safety since Woody. The results speak for themselves. We have had great pass rushers again and again
Ware and Parsons just the best
where has it gotten us?

Bain because DB's aren't needed for defending pases thrown from horizontal QB's
