I've been burned on Gallimore. I really thought he had a chance to develop into a real nice DT. Instead, he's barely been adequate.
I don't think he's even been adequate
Wasn't he on the inactive list one game,?
That's pretty bad.

He's not a pressure player, which is why we have to use the NASCAR package, replacing the DTs with DEs, in likely passing situations. Quinn does about as well as you can with what he's got, but there are always limitations when you don't have DTs that can consistently get penetration and disrupt plays. We've tried to address it (Collins, Gallimore, Hill, Odighizuwa, Golston) but need to learn that finding those type of DTs after the first round relies on a lot of luck. We either need to spend a first on it or dip into free agency/trades if one becomes available.
We don't do splash free agent signing here.
We dumpster dive.

Great. Wright played well according to Baldy. I like Baldy. I like his insights. If he says Wright was good, then who am I to question. I trust these guys over you guys waxing on about how awesome he was. And I hope he becomes a stud in the playoffs and locks down the one CB spot and that's one less problem we have to solve in the offseason.

But the reality is DT is way more pressing a problem than Wright or any CB and has been a noticeable problem for years.
When it comes to the secondary just listen to me. Don't waste time waiting to hear the same thing I said

I don't get it, the guy is big but they move him around like he is on skates, is it his Technique? Motivation? Agression?
Hopefully Hankins replaces most of his snaps.

One decade we'll have decent DT's again. Or century.
Kinda like the safety position for so many years.

I still blame Marinelli. His footprint is still here with these lean, so-called quick twitch guys that can’t hold their ground at the point of attack. And they can’t get to the quarterback to boot.

Yep

He hurt his elbow and that arm has been pretty much useless ever since.

We don't? The guys that they signed included numerous pro bowlers and guys that went in the first round. Kearse, Hooker, Fowler, Watkins, Peters, Turpin, Kearse, Barr, Maher, and Hilton are all key players on a team that is probably going 13 and 4. Not to mention their own free agents that help the team win. You are calling pro bowlers and 1st round guys dumpster trash. They actually did an excellent job of building a 13 and 4 team which is about as good as it gets. The bottom line is that they acquire what they need one way or another.

It would be great if that was the only issue - his elbow. And that like some guys, they need a full year to put an injury behind them. But he shows little burst out there. He just seems stuck at times.

Honestly, I'd bring back Hankins if he wants because he just eats space and you can use that and then other than maybe Odi, I'd dump the entire DT rotation and start over from scratch.

Oh, I'm definitely not expecting one. The cheap method has gone our way this year, so that just cements it in the Joneses' mind that they made the right choice. If we get to the Super Bowl, then I'll concede that their method worked. If not, then you have to wonder what difference a "splash" might have made. Of course, it doesn't appear there was any "splash" DTs available in free agency this year.

Splash is big-ticket free agents, not just name free agents. Players like Peters, Fowler and Hilton once would have been big-ticket FAs, but they are at the point in their careers where they are in the bargain bin, primarily because of health/age. Peters signed for $1.9 million. Fowler for $2.9. Hilton $800,000.

Most years, those kinds of signings don't really help the team. This year, a lot more of them have contributed.

I wouldn't have minded just because we needed to try anything we could, but Hankins was about the same level of pickup, maybe even better (as a signing) since he actually was playing this season.
I'm hope that they get Hankins back for the playoffs. I think that they might.

Loved the Hankins signing.
Just wish we would spend a little more in free agency.

Could definitely help. I love the way they are doing IR now because it allows teams to let players heal and come back to fortify the roster. Too bad neither Lewis or Brown had an injury they could return from for the playoffs, but glad that it looks like we'll get Hankins and LVE back.

I agree. I think we handicap ourselves a bit by essentially staying out of free agency until the prices drop. I believe we should consider all options. Maybe you end up with a Matt Judon because you're willing to pay $54 million over four years. That has turned out to be a decent contract, but it's not one the Joneses would have even considered. There are options other than paying less than $5 million a year or paying more than $20 million a year.
