I'm just curious but how do you bring up concerns/areas needing improvement without being labeled "negative". Is there any room for constructive criticism or is anything short of lollipops and rainbows considered "negative"?

Plenty. Part of it's earned reputation, though. Can't fairly work so hard to earn a reputation as being largely unconstructive and critical and then complain when you get a reputation for being unconstructive and critical. The other part is picking criticisms that actually are constructive instead of complaining about things like Tony Romo. The third part is allowing some of your excitement to show for winning a tough division game against a team who's earned us at home in recent seasons to show alongside your desire to see the team improve after the first actual game of the season.

Of course, Zordon, I'm using a collective 'you' here to refer to fans who might otherwise be confused as to why their constant criticism isn't really taken seriously or particularly appreciated by a lot of CZ fans.

I can only speak for myself, but I think this is a big big part of why those being critical are largely considered to be simply negative by the more optimistic fans. And I have to say, I do think it's pretty lame that after a game like last night's, there are immediately threads/posts proclaiming how unimpressive the Cowboys looked, how "lucky" they were, and how they didn't win due to skill, etc, etc.

It's like, at least enjoy the win a little, ya know?

If you're a Cowboys fan, how can you not be stoked by not only FINALLY getting a W over the Giants at home, but by generating SIX takeaways in the process! I thought it was awesome. A fun, exciting game to watch, that ended in a win.

There is certainly a way to present the facts in a fair and balanced way. If all someone does is spout negativity then that gets old. You can be critical of appropriate areas and offer praise as well.

I'm happy the Cowboys won. I liked the OL play for the most part. Aggressively playing for the turnover obviously payed huge dividends. Great effort and team tackling. Individual tackling was better although still needs work. I could go on but that's enough.

I'm concerned with the yardage given up per play at 8.1. That's huge. I went into the game concerned about the normal problems for the Tampa 2 and the Giants exploited them. They came up well on our outlets and we didn't but that's one of the scheme's weaknesses. We gave up the slant in when they played two WRs on the opposite side of the field. We got confused in coverage a few times although some of that was with the injection of rookies. I could go on but that's enough, too.

The above is a great deal different than 'We're gonna lose', same old stuff, coaches suck, players suck, yada yada. It's the hyperbole, crappy attitude, apparent lack of enough football knowledge, laughing at the negative plays as in I told you we sucked hahahahaha, yada that is annoying.

I like the ugly loss. We played our best game of the year on the last opener and looked like world beaters. Then we got our butts handed to us the next week. I will take it. The gents can throw the football. They always have been able to, at least against us.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I may roll my eyes a bit of it's a Romo-can't-play-in-the-pocket take, but I'd take it in stride and consider the post on its merits if it includes a little bit of excitement about winning a big game against a good team. If it's a 100% complaint-post, I just assume the poster is never going to be happy and is not actually interested in being fair-minded towards the team. I usually write those off as agenda posts, and don't give them credit for being constructive, and I discount the criticism as reflex action.

But there are plenty of things to be critical about from last night's game as far as the Cowboys are concerned. I don't think that's lost on *anybody,* and, by Wednesday, we'll be well into dissecting the issues in earnest, I'm sure.

True when the shoe was on the other foot no one talked about the efforts the Cowboys showed when we were the ones having turnover vs NY but made a game of it. Cowboys made mistakes no doubt and there are areas that need to be cleaned up but Dallas vs NY over recent years have played out as this one did yet this time Cowboys held up and made the big plays while avoiding the critical mistake and won. Then again I don't take winning for granted

its so hard to win in this league every week. enjoy it.

Because the same stuff that always gets us embarrassed and sent home early are still very much apart of this team.

If we get 6 turnovers late in the year consistently then we'll be alright.

I've always been of the opinion that you really can't tell anything about a team until at least week three, and I think that's even more true in this age of the new CBA. It has always taken NFL teams a few games to acclimate themselves to the heightened speed and intensity of regular season. It just can't be replicated in preseason or practice, and NFL teams practice less now than they ever have anyway. So I'll hold off on judgement for a few weeks. As a positive-leaning realist, however, I don't know how folks could have watched the game last night and not come away encouraged about a few things, like:

• The play of Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick
• Landon Cohen and Jason Hatcher
• Generating *6* take-aways
• NYG running the ball for all of *50* yards
• The return of Miles Austin
• Witten in the Red Zone

Is there lots of stuff the Cowboys need to work on? Sure, but they are 1-0, and after hearing all off-season about the team's emphasis on turnovers, it was exceptionally nice to see it translate to the field in such a huge way. I'm highly stoked about the integration of Waters into the OL, the return of Spencer and Rat on D and Dunbar to the backfield.

Here's to 2-0.

Gifted? BS Dallas went out and took it. People want to see perfectioin well that is not going to happen Dallas did some things that need to be corrected they also did a lot of good things out there that so called fans just allow to go over their heards.

Precisely, .. big difference than saying they were gifts.

I guess the Bears were getting those same gifts when Rod Marinelli was there. lol

Cowboys defensive staff not only talk about creating turnovers they have been working at it since the 1st day when Marinelli and Kiffin got here.

I agree. An instruction manual on how to point out flaws would be nice.

The turnovers were great. We got 6 and gave them 1 yet the game was in the balance late into the 4th quarter. Love the win, but there's things on both the offense and defense that reminded me so much of last season. For one, as soon as we score, the other team usually scores right back on us. We couldn't run the ball consistently again as in last year. Too many penalties on offense again stopped drives.

I get the whole we got 6 turnovers but almost lost mentality. I don't agree with it but I understand how some negative nancie's think it but here is what everyone of them is missing. So many times in the past we would get a turnover (ok.... occasionally :D ) and then go on to blow it and then, here's the important part, our defense would allow the other team to drive for the game winner. Tonight our defense got the turnovers but when we failed to score in the desired fashion OUR DEFENSE HELD. Isn't that a much nicer way of thinking about it? Tell the truth, when Eli had the ball twice with under 6 minutes you thought the gnats were gonna drive for the game winner, didn't you? Didn't you? But they didn't! That alone makes everything worth while. Further, they did it with a bunch of guys who have been discarded from other teams and have only been with us for what, 3-6 weeks? I for one will take this win and hold it like a soft warm blankie at night.

Awesome job on defense...can't wait to get Spencer back into the mix and excited to see Waters play on the oline. Great night overall on defense (understatement). I'm not worried about the offense because they will return to form. Wasn't real good last night, but good enough and I'm good with that knowing how good the offense really is.

Dallas had 5 penalties, sorry but that is way down from last season
