Beginning to think we should have pulled the trigger on Ed Reed

How did Reed play in the Jets 37-14 loss to the Bills?

I know this is a loaded question, but I was actually at their game today with really nice seats. He played well. Definitely has lost a step, but still very instinctive. Thought he played okay despite not being there for more than a week.

It's not intended to be a loaded question. I'm actually curious to know how he played.

Well, in fairness to the Texans, clearly, their coaching got a lost worse all of a sudden this season. They were excellent coaches last year, and then just forgot or whatever here in 2013. The Falcons have the same problem.

The mighty have fallen this year, Raven, Atlanta, Texans, one SB winner and 2 prior up and comers.

Ed Reed went where someone knew him. In an open market I suspect he was likely headed to the Jets. We would have had to claim him to get him here, and the numbers were supposedly north of a million for 6 games.

He got the vet minimum for a 10-year vet. So it was $940k.

He wanted to play with a team that has a chance to win the SB, that eliminates Dallas.

And so he picked the Jets?

Yes, any money he gets comes odf the books for Houston unless the new team pays more than the original contract. In other words, his salary was guaranteed with Houston. He is actually playing for free but gives himself a better chance to get a job next year by continuing to play now.

Dude is starting today for the Jets. If he is so banged up why is he starting? With all our safety issues I think we may regret not making a move for him. May have lost on the bidding but we didn't even look his way.

I believe it was Ed Cahill on Cowboys Break that said the team should sign Ed Reed if they really wanted to win, otherwise keep Heath and company..........................OUCH...............LOL

Day 1 was a 33-20 win for a 1-7 team at NY against the Giants. But I get it. You don't like Coach Garrett and think this team should be walking away with the division the last two seasons.

Sounds like he doesn't have much of a grasp on how the NFL Salary Cap works

My understanding is he was signed to the vet minimum by the Jets, as his salary is still being paid by the Texans. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I more-so meant he doesn't have an understanding relative to where the Cowboys are at for Reed. If we signed Reed and then had another injury spell we'd be filling it with undrafted free agents.

C'mon, fellers, this lets-sign-an-aged-banged-up-player thinking is so old and unoriginal.
Think young, think healthy and think relatively cheap.
That is the model for a team that wants to rebuild.
The Ed Reeds of this world half played well and loyally but there comes a point when a team has to look past the name and ax: How is he playing this year? Is he on the ascent or descent? In Reed's case, two teams half discarged him not because he was good but because he is way over the hill.

What I was saying is that for a chance to get him we had to claim him, not wait for him to clear waivers. I think we would have had to accept his contract. I think he went to the jets because a former coach was there that he trusted to use him right. He has no ties to us.
