I sent an email, not that it will matter...
Dear Sir,
I wanted to send an email to voice my concern as a fan of the National Footall League regarding the punishment for the Patriots organization that was handed down by the commissioner. In my opinion, the integrety of the game was compromised and as a fan I wonder what effect this has had over past seasons and superbowls. It's straightforward enough to understand what effect potentially knowing the defensive call would have on the game. It is also rumored, yet documented by the media, that this type of behavior from the Patriots has occurred in the past and this is the first time that in which someone was caught red handed, in public, so to speak. I was strongly hoping the commissioner would send the same kind of stern message to the Patriots that has been expressed to other players and organizations since taking office. In general, I have applauded the effort to set a tone within the NFL that rules will be enforced and everyone will be held responsible for thier actions.
That being said, I am thoroughly dumbfounded by the lack of discipline enforced on the Patriots organization and head coach. The commissioner recently suspended an assistant coach for 5 games and 1/3 of his salary for using a banned substance for personal, off-label use regarding a health issue. This was because coaches are held to a higher standard, yet casting shadow on the basic integrity of the game does on recieve a suspension for a single game? I am thoroughly appalled and now question the overall oversight and fundamental objective of the league office. It honestly appears that the possible objective is to sweep this under the rug before more information becomes available to the general public.
From a fans perspective, the NFL completely missed the mark on this one.
Regards
