And people think he would have had the same success here? No, he wouldn't have. He wouldn't have had the authority he needed in Dallas thanks to the lunatic owner.

So theoretically Garrett could be the next Belichick once he gets fired and gets out from under Jerry. Hey, we may have the next Belichick on staff everybody.

He passed on Belichick in the mid-'90s but later hired Gailey and Campo as HC? That perspective certainly puts Jerry Jones hiring practices in question.

After Switzer. After Gailey. That just makes me sick.

I don’t know if Belichick would have had the same success or not here with all the crazy, but I do think he actually might have been able to work with Jerry. Not many good coaches in that category.

Never would have worked out.

Belicek wins because he has full control over team operations. He has a specific system in place with a specific philosophy.

Jerry would have walked all over that system, utterly destroying it's effectiveness.

Jerry's "help" would have paralyzed any team building progress by Belicek.

Jones and Belicek wouldn't have made it through a training camp.

In fact, their strategies were polar opposites. Jerry liked to make a splash in the draft, particularly the top round. Before the new rookie contract structure, Belicek felt that the untested 1st round pick were overpaid strictly on potential. Also, the skill players tended to be prima Donna's. He felt that he could always get good value in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. He habitually traded away a first pick for twos and threes..... and next year's first just so be could do it all over again. So it was not unusual for the Patriots to come out of a draft with four or five players just in rounds 2 and 3.

Jerry would ha e gone nuts. He liked to make headlines during a draft. Belicek is loyal only to winning and constantly lost productive players that other teams overpaid for.

No one knew who he was or if he was any good at the time. Doesn't sting at all.
He started to turn the Browns around until Modell decided to skip town. Then, everything went to pieces.
Jerry didn't do his homework because Belichick was a disciple of Parcells.
Be that as it may, Jerry didn't want anyone who would overshadow him. That's why we had a string of Gaileys and Campos and Parcells (only to sale tickets) and Phillips and Garretts. All except for Parcells, Jerry overshadowed. And that's what he wants, a coach who will let him coach and steal all the glory.

How does this hurt people

Bill was let go in Cleveland and didnt get another head coach job until the Jets gave him one in 99 and he resigned a day later

no one expected Bill to be the greatest Head coach in history

Time travel. The year is 20??. Many people in the football community gather together at The Star to say their final goodbyes at Jerry Jones' funeral.

Then it happened. For a brief moment, Bill Belichick and Dave Campo lock eyes across a wide room, shook their heads in unison and thought to themselves "How the <expletive> did/didn't that guy end up coaching Jerry's team and I did/didn't???"

Who's surprised? We've always had missed opportunities. Look at a few of our first rounders/2nd rounders from these past few years. What we got vs. what we could've gotten.

That could be said about literally every team in the league.

The phrase “hindsight is 20/20” exists for a reason.
