Like Mort said - the video camera was confiscated early in the game and likely wasn't analyzed. It didn't contribute to their thrashing of the jets, so the game should stand.

That being said, draft picks should be forfeited, a hefty fine, and a suspension of the coach, and any coaches who had knowledge of it.

Only problem is, the Patriots have done it before. You can't really take the win from them, but it would be cool if Robespierre did.

Yeah, this will be a tough one for Goodell, marquee team, high profile coach and players, big consequences.....

Practically, I don't see a ruling before the next game. Patriots haven't had a full chance to respond yet, and the NFL has to consider carefully what they do.

You can't nail everyone involved, as that might leave the Pats with no coaching staff whatsoever. But, having laid down the 5 game suspension for Wilson, you are effectively comparing the actions of the two with your response. Goodell laid out the line that coaches were to be held to a higher standard when they popped Wilson.

I see at least a first round pick going away. Hefty team fine. Suspension without pay for Belicheck. It really should be 6-8 games, minimum. No matter what now, this will cause more NFL turmoil; they just have to decide what flavor they want.

Funny thing, that 'NFL approved cameramen must wear vests' issue now turns out to be real useful. As evidenced in that great photo of the Pats guy caught 'red handed'.

Sorry, but you are wrong.

Mods: I think we need a sticky for this

There is a photo circulating on the internet that purportedly shows evidence that the pats cheated. This photo was even referred to on the morning show on WEEI.

It is important that everyone understand that in fact the photo originated on this site by a perhaps misguided patriots fan in this thread: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-...ad.php?t=60295

This photo has been discredited here and on other reputable sites (http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com....php?Page=1624)

This story has spun out of control, in no small reason to unsubstantiated "evidence' and speculation such as this.

Oh no. Here come the sweeper teams and the men in black. Even if the photograph is incorrect, they've already admitted to cheating.

BTW, I saw this pic on one of the forums for the alleged camera man. Hilarious.

"This is no trial; Belichick is not a prisoner at the bar; you are not judges; you are—you cannot but be—statesmen, and the representatives of the nation. You have not to pass sentence for or against a single man, but you have to take a resolution on a question of the public safety, and to decide a question of NFL foresight. It is with regret that I pronounce, the fatal truth: Belichick ought to perish rather than a hundred thousand virtuous Coaches and Players; Belichick must die, so that the NFL may live."

While it's pretty easy to tell that it didn't help in this game, it's not because it's hard to stream the video. Assuming you have a digital camcorder (and I don't think that it's a difficult assumption, you can get a wireless transmitter and receiver for it http://www.nextag.com/wireless-video-transmitter/search-html Given that it would take all of about 15 minutes to set up and the teams probably get a couple of hours on the sidelines before the game, they could easily have somebody somewhere in the vicinity that their only job is to decipher the meaning of playcalls.

Suspend Bellichick for AT LEAST 8 games and strip them of their 2008 draft picks.

They were warned about this. There is a legitimate chance this is a major contribution to their three super bowl titles.

Anything less is a sham. This is FAR more serious than anything Vick did.

I agree totally! The commish should make the Pats play Vick at QB for the rest of the season...see how Bellicheat likes that!

I predict a hefty fine. A forfeiture of, say, a round three and round four pick.

I will be so pissed off if it's that inconsequential.

In 15 minutes of searching I found Saban, Coughlin and Belichick tied to this practice.

I think stealing signs has been going on for a long long time. Don Shula recently said that if a he was stupid enough to have his signs stolen he deserved it. This is old school football guys merging with new technology and the stakes have changed.

Technology is available to on the fly impact a game real time. BB defense I'm hearing is that he never used the tapes during the game. No competitive advantage. Teams can legally put a guy in a box with a binocular and take notes and get same results legally.

But he was brazen enough to break the letter of law and is guilty.

And you will expect the same punishment if it gets out Dallas and Parcells did the same thing last year? And odds are pretty good as apple don't fall far from the tree.....

A fine, 2 draft picks is pretty steep. I think Goodel may actually lean more to a suspension than a draft pick punishment.

Only 2 draft picks from last year made Pats roster. He can hurt BB more by sending him home and taking a few paychecks. I think he makes approx $350K+- A GAME.

Absolutely. If someone can produce evidence, hit the Cowboys hard. If you knew as much about Parcells and Bellichick as you think you do, I think you could acknowledge that the apple has fallen very far from the tree.

This could rank up there because I'm guessing that this isn't just a single camera. This will probably turn out to to be a massive coordinated effort involving multiple cameras and microphones, extra speakers in helmets besides Brady's, bugs in locker rooms and coach's boxes upstairs, jamming of opponent's radios, intercepting opponent's radios, etc.

For years, I've frequently heard numerous reporters describing BB as being as paranoid and tight with info as the CIA. Perhaps it was a sign that he was afraid that other teams would go as far as he does.

Think of the advantage of extra mikes in DB's helmets. Coaches could tell them in real time to react to changes elsewhere on the field that they aren't looking at. How often have we seen the Pats make Peyton Manning look like he was back in Jr. High in a game? How often have we seen rather average players play like Hall of Famers on the Patriots? They could even keep most of the players on their own team in the dark. Just tell Bruschi what the next play is and let him and Crennel look like geniuses when he makes his defensive call. Heck, radios for the DB's would make them look better when it came time for free agency (gee look at all those key interceptions and tight coverages) so they too would probably not say anything.

Since most of this is probably legal, they could simply hire extra staff at a nice pay to handle most of the extra work involved in spying and figuring out the details.
