Belt and Broaddus not all in on Jake Ferguson as the starter

Ferguson looked good his rookie year…..not sure why they feel that way.
I'm not sure why Belt and Broaddus would say that about Ferguson, but I know what I myself would expect to see from Jake..

- And that's how Jake separates from single man coverages on a consistent basis,.. I wanna be able to see him juke and shake coverage LBs and safeties and be a tough
to cover TE.

- I've seen Ferguson display agility (high hurdles tacklers) and whiff elusiveness after the catch ... but those highlights were also off roll out waggles that schemed him into the openings
Can Ferguson create in routes separation on his own ? And does he have deep seam ability ?

- I think Hendershot has that vertical deep seam speed that they'd like their TEs to have .. he's just not as physical a blocking anchor.
Several times that I've seen Hendershot, it looked like he was barely " holding " on.

He isn't as good as Schoon. Schoon is a way better blocker for one thing. Schoon is far enough down the ladder he won't get the targets Ferg will be he is his equal in receiving.
He is definitely not Ferguson's equal as a receiver. Probably never will be. That skill is far more valuable than as a blocker.

Yeah I agree. I don't get it. Especially for what they showed their rookie year I was way more impressed by them then Schultz early in his career.

He did look good, but is he really starter material. That is something we still have to find out. I do think he is better than Schoonmaker, and will most likely get the lions share of passing game opportunities this year
That's the question is he starter material. If the bar is Dalton Schultz? Then yeah i'd say he is starter material based on what I saw his rookie season. If the bar is Kelce? Then yeah he's going to pale in comparison.

What’s “starting material”? What hasn’t he shown he can do?

I think that depends on how quickly the rookie can pick up the pro game.
The Schoon pick is so confusing because the guy is already 25 or will be. The age thing doesn't bother me if he can come right in and produce. For that pick to make sense he has to come right in and look like a vet and as of now I don't expect him to look better than Ferguson but maybe they want to justify the 2nd rounder on Schoon and force him out there. I don't understand how they aren't optimistic about what they saw from the tight ends who were 2nd and 3rd on the depth chart.

Nobody can tell me Schultz is with 10 million and is starter material but Ferguson isn't.

The age thing doesn’t concern me with Schoonmaker at all. He’ll still be in his physical prime by the time his rookie contract is over.

His age doesn't concern me if he can play but if he's going to take 2 or 3 years to develop like Schultz did then we are looking at a 27 or 28 year old tight end. Then he's looking at a new deal at 29. Just something I been thinking about but it doesn't matter if we get a strong 4 years from him. Or even 3.

This isn't 1985. I don't want blocking to be the first thing I hear about your 2nd round TE.
Right .. you don't hear the Travis Kelcies....Mark Andrews,..and George Kittles,.. making Pro Bowls because they are strictly blockers.

But his age wouldn’t be the factor, but his contract year.
