I like Ferguson a lot. Going back to the draft, I was a big fan and thought he could contribute as a rookie, which he did.

I don’t really know what those two doofuses are seeing but he is a pretty good player IMO.

The tight end room is probably the weakest unit on the offense. There is a reason the Cowboys took Schoonmaker in the 2nd round. Hopefully all three Schoonmaker, Ferguson, and Hendershot step up.

Cause they didn't like the pick when it was made and are hesitant to admit they were wrong.

Broaddus is the king of that.
Great point. Broaddus does do that. Typically all these media guys do. Its why I like Sturm. He's willing to admit when wrong.

Who did Broaddus not like Ferguson?

Broaddus also said that Ferguson has leaned up and looks more fluid this year so there is an out.

I think Ferguson talent wise is in the Schultz category (he looks like he could be a little better to me) and Hendershot is in the Blake Jarwin category, which is a receiving h-back type. Schoonmaker actually has a chance to be a top TE in both blocking and receiving.
Ferguson was better than schultz last year.

No he wasn’t. What Cowboys game were you watching. Shultz playoff game against Tampa was the best game by a tight end in the playoffs.
Did I say playoffs or last year as in the entire year? EPA ferguson's production blew schultz out of the water. And schultz was the worst blocker on the team.

He was and like you said, he showed some playmaker abilities. Fun thing how Broadus and that other cat don't seem to like Ferguson.Travis Kelse, over in Kansas City, was interviewed awhile back and asked who were the young tight ends that he liked. He named two players and Ferguson was one of those two players. I believe I will listen Kelse before I listen to Broadus and his buddy. Look it up on YouTube.

Everyone likes different players. Sometimes, players surprise. I think Belt is trying to be a little more pessimistic. His two co-hosts were attacking him the other day for being a "homer." It was a pretty classless ad hominem. I don't even know the other two clowns' names. Belt's response was priceless. He earned my support right there. Those other two are side pieces to the show anyway. Just there to move the conversation along. They bring no real substance or commentary analysis. I guess they get tired of being in the background and lash out..my guess is they, Belt and Broaddus, are trying to appear more objective or throw off competition.

I used to hate on Broaddus..even this year. But once he gets his head in on the content he's working with he does a good job with it.

TE is important. I think we can have success with a trio.

A bunch of #2's.
I was thinking the same thing but we’ve got to at least see Schoon on the field before relegating him to this lot.

He may surprise us but ya know the Rico Gathers just don’t grow on trees.

I think they are just saying what they believe his ceiling to be……not as high as other may think

From their latest podcast. Neither guy seems confident in Ferguson as the starter or even the best player at the position.

Belt even went as far as to say that the Cowboys drafted Ferguson not because they were in love with the prospect but because they felt they had to get a TE with that pick because of the TE run that was taking place and that Ferguson lacks the upside of Schoonmaker and Hendershot.

I like Ferguson. I think he's got moxie. The kind of guy who can make a play at a critical point in the game. I want him on my team but as the backup. So I tend to agree with this take. I'm just not sure the others are any better as these guys seem to think.

35 minute mark of the video.

I don't really see a reason to believe Ferguson can't be as good as Schultz was, but I don't really care which one of them emerges as long as one does.

I think people are thinking about it wrong. For our team, it's likely going to be how we utilize our TEs in the grand scheme of things. If McCarthy has changed anything with the playbook, it's going to be with the TEs, and perhaps their role in relation to Dak. Hopefully, we'll have TE schemes that often give Dak sort of a safety blanket so he doesn't get in the weeds out there, and have to throw into traffic. Intstead, he can just quickly dump it off to a FB, TE, HB, etc.

That's what I hope they are working on. A few more slant, in route, outs, posts, etc, and less option routes, which is where they're running into trouble. McCarthy had been saying that all year. He planted that seed after the first loss. McCarthy is thinking ahead. Make no doubt. Many coaches think in the now. McCarthy looks ahead. I'll give him that. I want him to be more in the now this year, though.

I think those comparisons are fair except that Ferguson already looks like a better blocker than Schultz was and Hendershot's a better blocker than Jarwin was. Hopefully, the comparison we end up making for Schoonmaker is Witten.
