Benefits Of Trading Down...

Dickerson was much faster and not considered a power back. Dickerson was once in a generation and Adrian Peterson is no Dickerson. Also when Dickerson was playing LB's and DE's were not cositently running in the 4.5 to 4.6 range.

of course when you move from 6 to 8 it isn't a big sacrifice. moving out of round 1 entirely is a risky proposition.

Not saying it was a sacrifice or risky but we got the guy we wanted and got an extra pick in the process not a bad day at the office if you ask me. As for this season I just see several players that I think would fit in nicely with the Cowboys and address some needs in the later part of the draft which is why I think they will look to move out of the 18th spot. Sorry I'm not one who believes in BPA I think it is BPA that fits a need.

Dickerson was a hundred meter champion in high school I do not see the same speed in Peterson and no Dickerson was never considered a power back, yes he had the size but he never took as much contact as Peterson does. What is so hard to understand about that. Hos did you consider Franco a power back.

totally agree there -- people point to Larry Johnson as a reason for BPA -- but do you really want a disgruntled player sitting for a couple of years? I'm not against trading down -- just against trading out of round 1.

Unless the Texans did have the #1 and #2 in the second and wanted to swap. That would be a huge deal in my opinion but since their #1 and #2 is in the third it really doesn't matter.

Let's not bring in other RBs yet.

What is so hard for me to understand is how anyone can say Eric Dickerson was NOT a power RB.

From the Hall of Fame.

"A graceful yet powerful runner, Dickerson simply befuddled opposing defenses. The more he carried the ball, the better he seemed to play."

That is the essence of a power RB.

I did not say he was not a powerful runner I said he was not a power back. I think of a power back as Earl Campbell, Jerome Bettis, OJ Anderson, Troy Hambrick :p: JK etc. Actually I have never seen Dickerson portrayed as a power back. But back to the topic at hand, it was blasphemy of you to bring up Adrien Mcpherson and Dickerson in comparison the only thing they have in common is size.

First of all I didn't compare Eric Dickerson and Adrian MacPherson.

I compared Eric Dickerson and Adrian Peterson. Slight difference in position played.

:wink2:

I do consider Dickerson a power back right up there with Csonka, Campbell, Riggins, etc. The guy had a rare combination of speed and power. That doesn't make him a scat back with power. He was a power back with speed.

There's a reason they called him the Robo RB and it wasn't the glasses. The guy was a running machine. The essence of power. As the game went on he was pounding on defenders and wearing them down. That is what a power back does.

I think people are missing the point of BPA a little bit.

You still need to get value, but you also need to address needs.

If you've got Peyton Manning and the first overall pick, and the top player is a quarterback. You either trade out or draft someone else. Jerry said it himself a couple years ago. When you draft someone on the first day, you're really hoping that they can start for you. And with the exception of players getting injured, first day players have always started with us since parcells got here at some point during their first season.

I'd like to see us trade out of the first if we can pick up a high 2nd and a 3rd.

That way we can still draft Manny Lawson, and pick up a safety, defensive tackle, and guard.

Julius is serviceable, but he is not in the same league as Peterson.

FORGET Peterson, if the Cowboys stockpile picks to make a move in next year's draft then they have to acquire Brady Quinn. Oh Yeah!!

you forgot to say that we can draft them all on DAY 1, that would be the beauty of trading out of the first, especially with Jason Allen losing stock value in the draft!!!!!

Seriously for Peterson you must be insane sure he is a wonderful player but if you are going to trade up all the way into the top 5 next year to take him instead of trading up into the Top 5 and taking Brady Quinn who with Parcells and Bledsoe gone after the Superbowl win will be our starter for many years to come

I'm not against taking a QB, but I'm not sure Brady Quinn is THE MAN. Yes. I currently would take Adrian Peterson over ANYONE else in the draft next year. My opinion might change over the course of the next year, but he might be better than Ladanian Tomlinson.

DUH! I have no idea were that came from, I guess we just have to agree to disagree. I have never looked at Dickerson as a power back and I do not believe he was used to wear down a defense he was IMO a run to daylight type runner but had the power to run over you. With that said I have to once
again state that Peterson is not in the same class as Dickerson and I would question his durability in the Pros. The one thing about Dickerson, he was rarely hurt.

Comparing Peterson with Dickerson is a somewhat fair comparison. Both are power runners with speed. Both get stronger as the game goes on. Picture Ladainian Tomlinson with extra size and muscle mass. If Peterson stays healthy he might be the best back to come out of the college ranks in the past 15 years. He has proven nothing in the PROS so far, but if he is healthy I think is the overall number one next year. I would venture to say that Reggie Bush (who some regard as being the potential overall number one pick this year) could not carry Peterson's jock strap.

Thats the difference right there his injury history and his running style IMO opinion will be a huge red flag. Dickerson did not run the way Peterson does and I have followed Dickerson since he was in High School, he did not initiate contact the way Peterson does, Dickerson would rather run around you than runthrough you, thats why I hesitate to call him a power rb.

We've all done it. No big deal.

Agree to disagree is fine. I think Dickerson was one of the best power back ever.

I'm not sure Peterson has had an injury history other than this past year, but he was mia a lot of last year due to a high ankle sprain. That should not cause him any long term ill effects. He should be 100 % this year. I think this guy is going to be a beast in the NFL.

Didn't Peterson also suffer from shoulder problems some last year and the year before?
