Rayfield was a talented Basketball player and a good TE who Tom Landry moved to LT... With todays speed rushers on the left side who weigh for the most part under 300lbs and with Bennett being 265-270 now...well you can see where I am going with this...would his value to the team be more as a LT...does anyone believe he has the mental makeup to play the position.

It is an idea...that would take time to come to fruitation...but whether we do or do not move him...I would much rather have an athelete out at LT that can learn technic than have a technician out there that has little to no atheltic ability.

No not really.

His problem at TE was always blocking. He's "better" at it, but no where near good enough to be a tackle. And he's too gifted in speed/height/catching to let that go to waste.

The Cowboys' coaches, scouts and GM disagree with you.

Actually several people in the organization have noted how tremendous his blocking is. He was awesome at it in college too. Jones even said one time this yr that if he wasnt so athletic and talented a TE, they could bulk him up and he could play LT.

And the rest of the known universe.

How many opportunities has he had?

Miles Austin 5 games into his 4th season before he was finally GIVEN the opportunity to break out. Why hadn't he broken out before? Maybe he just wasn't given the chance.... He's had 35 career receptions in the league in 2 seasons. That's nearly 2x what Austin had his first 3 seasons.

Do it, at least try. Phillips is going to be just as good as bennett, IMO.

To much twittering and trash talking. Would take John Phillips over him

I will say, Phillips did a lot with the chance he was given when Bennett got hurt...

Bennett has to decide what he wants to be first- a football player or an entertainer.

I doubt he has the discipline to ever be good at his own position, much less learn a new one.

LT? Jesus, some of you people are just ********.

What they're talking about has precedent, as mentioned in the OP.

While I think Bennett would be better utilized as a TE, it's foolish for you to summarily dismiss the idea that with his excellent blocking skills and quick feet he couldn't develop into an LT.

A similar move worked out very well for the cowboys in the past.

If he has the ability to be a great LT, I will take that over a great TE. Great tackles are just way to freaking hard to come by.

You're on drugs. Bennett has so much more physically ability that it makes your statement laughable.

Is the guy even capable of bulking up, though? I mean, right now he eats buckets of Captain Crunch with gallons of sugar on top and stays lean. ;)

Jason Peters was a TE as recently as a few years ago in college, so I don't doubt he could do it.

Good question but I believe it would be possible with supplements but he would have to add the weight in his butt and legs... and that is one of the reasons that it would have to be atleast a 2 year project...I just don't know if it is easier to try and draft a LT or to home grow one...

With Rayfield and Tui they were both conversions...with Flo he was drafted.

I can't say one way is better than another but LT has to be looked at as a need for this team if not today than sometime in the near future.

To compare Rayfield Wright to Bennett first you must remember how dedicated and professional Rayfield was. Bennett is NOT in his class.
