Bennett = Wright

What they're talking about has precedent, as mentioned in the OP....

A similar move worked out very well for the cowboys in the past.

Precedent doesn't really apply as Wright switched positions FORTY FREAKING YEARS AGO when you could play OL at 255 lbs.

What I would like to know with Bennett this year - all that promise in the pre season. :D :D :D :D

Then the regular season rolls around and .....: :(

Rayfield was a talented Basketball player and a good TE who Tom Landry moved to LT... With todays speed rushers on the left side who weigh for the most part under 300lbs and with Bennett being 265-270 now...well you can see where I am going with this...would his value to the team be more as a LT...does anyone believe he has the mental makeup to play the position.

It is an idea...that would take time to come to fruitation...but whether we do or do not move him...I would much rather have an athelete out at LT that can learn technic than have a technician out there that has little to no atheltic ability.

I understand where your going and its a nice thought, but the whole key issue is, does Bennett really want to be the best TE, or OT or does Bennett want to twitter, blog, rap etc.. and talk more than working? Most of the time in life, to get somewhere or accomplish something, you have to work hard to get there. Unless God leaves some big money and talent at your doorstep.

If you watched some of Bennett's routes, he does this 360 route that is like where in the world did that come from. Everytime he was suppose to run a particular route Bennett would go off and do his own thing. You cant do that!

So, till Bennett gets into his head to really work, study hard and watch lots of film stuff, and with Jerry Jones calling out Bennett too, maybe that will work. No one else can do it for Bennett, but he has to himself. Thats the key.

I don't doubt that a bit Joe.

Jared Allen did that to a lot of LTs this year, and most of them with a lot more experience than Free.

Plus if we are going to judge him by this one game, we need a whole new line.
I'm not ****ting on Free. I only said he needs to develop more power to be a LT.

Lots of guys with tons of physical ability never do squat in the NFL.

Lots of people aren't Bennett. He has what it takes. That, I don't question.

I heard Jerry say the same exact thing about potentially being a good OT if we bulked him up.

However, I would rather have a space cadet at TE vs protecting Romo's blind side.

A lot of elite OT's were TE's at some point in their football careers.

Jerry Jones making evaluations on a football player's growth potential at a position they have never played before. Hmmm. I wonder if this is a sound validation.

You're on drugs. Bennett has so much more physically ability that it makes your statement laughable.

Yeah, guess what genius, its about A LOT more than just physical ability.

If he has what it takes, he would have already "tooken" it, right?

Why the hell did it take Austin all these years to explode onto the scene? Jim Garrett told the Cowboys that Austin had *IT* and that they should draft him. Well, if he had *IT* then, why didn't he have a 250 yard game his rookie year? Sometimes it just takes time for it to happen. Bennett has only been in the league 2 seasons. He is already a starting caliber TE in a blocking TE sense.

You guys have a silver spoon in your mouth because of Witten. There aren't that many 1k yard TEs in the league. Give Bennett time, I'm willing to bet he is capable of a 1k yard season.

Making projections comes with the territory.

How many players in our front seven played 3-4 in college?

.

There's no comparison to Austin, who was a UFA out of a Div III school. Bennett was a 2nd round pick from a big time program. And he's regressed from last year.

You guys are nuts if you think a 285-290 lb Tackle is any good right now. Take a look at all the starting tackles in the league and NONE of them are that small. You cannot have a small tackle- they get destroyed. You need to be AT LEAST 300 and then look at the size of every pro bowl tackle over the last 10 years. They HAVE NOT been getting any smaller. Not to mention you have to be able to BLOCK the big guys as well as interecept the small speed rushers. Even the OLBs are now pushing 270. DEs of any kind are at least in the 280 range. 3-4 DE's are 300 or close to it.

He did? How did he regress? I thought his blocking technique was far stronger this year than last year.

If it was up to most of the people on this board, Romo, Barber, Adams, Spencer, Jenkins and many others would have been gone long ago due to trades or outright release.

Frankly he broke too many routes and screwed up too many plays.

This.

He wasn't drafted in the 2nd round to be a blocking TE, and his receiving numbers were down across the board despite this being a much better offense this year than last.

The Bennett we watched in 2008 was promising. This year's version was extremely disappointing.

Hey Roy Williams was great at blocking too.

I don't know why so many are bashing this idea. The NFL these days is moving away from the Flozell type OT - and moving toward the more athletic type.

Phillips can handle the back up TE spot - and we could be set at the OT position for years - Free and Marty.

Now can he do it....who knows - but the idea is great.

Bennett produced more on the field this year than he did last year. You just don't notice it when it's a block since blocks don't hit the stat sheet. I bet you were on the trade Romo/Spencer/Jenkins wagon at some point too.

They can't even get him to tuck the ball properly or I don't know.. learn the playbook. What do you think is going to happen when the slap a 70 jersey on him and ask to block on every play?

Bennett is a huge talent, problem is, he knows it. Jason Peters was an undrafted free agent so when the team said move to tackle, he said no problem. Bennett is a 21-year old millionaire who is in love with himself. No chance of this happening.

Let him see the difference in contract numbers for TE and OT in the NFL and he might just change his mind.
